I have a Ken Smith Burner 5, awesome bass (sorry no pics on the PC I am currently using). It is light weight and sounds great. I am, however, thinking about selling it because the body is just a little to "big" for me. I have had it for 8 years now, but I guess I am used to the more "fender" style body as opposed to these :hmm:

(Check now, please!) yes, I did not have any idea, since Smiths are extremely rare and expensive here in Italy; but now I also think they are absolutely excellent axes, no matter the price or other factors. Someone says "naaah: the Burner series are not the real thing" etc. but who cares: I am an absolutely happy owner of this baby!!!

IMHO - the KSD basses are not the real thing (no dissing Ken Smith at all, I have one and it sounds great but still not a "Ken Smith" compared to a BMT Elite...). But the burners are a different story...


If I remember now from looking at your pic... The reason I didnt get a burner was the string spacing was too close for me...

string spacing.... some see it as a big issue, some not. I am in the second camp: I adapt pretty quickly from my 35" 19 mm Lakies 55-02 to this 34" 17 mm. It is just a matter of... not thinking too much about this issue, I guess!?!?!

But if you do a lot of slap and pop, probably this could be a problem... then Victor Bailey with his 6 narrow spacing strings... :hiding:

yeah so a few years before...

I purchased my smiths new, one in 96, the other in 97... I dont recall how long I waited for them to be built, but I remember it was surprisingly quick back then...

I stopped looking for basses after I got the fretless in 97 since I felt I had the two most perfect instruments I could get.

I just won this Burner Custom V on eBay. It was listed as a Deluxe...

I paid too much, but I found myself unable to resist.

My first 5-string!
