Miserably I took a look at my Ken Smith's fingerboard today and found it riddle with "grains"...

Please someone come up and tell me that's normal/acceptable...

Looks like every beautiful Rosewood fingerboard I've ever seen! If it was Ebony, you might not be able to detect the grain, but since it's Rosewood, it sure looks normal to me.

I have 5 basses with ebony board and they all look similar to yours, nothing to worry about I guess.

By the way, I guess nobody noticed the Ken Smith with a Maple board, if that's a option now I'll be ordering one soon!!

It is actually worse than in the pics and makes me worried a lot. The grains grow all over the fretboard. My other basses' ebony boards don't have such indense grains...

BTW: I've seen Ken Smith with maple fretboard before in this video: with great interest. Please ignore the ad of Reunion Blues...(mute it!)

Do you live in a dry area? Ebony boards usually don't need a lot of care but I oil mine at least 3 times a year.

That is a KSD there's plenty of those, the one in the pic is a real Ken Smith. I'm intrigued!

carlis, how long have you had the bass? Was it something develop over time?
Best thing is to mail Ken a picture and ask. You can also post on his forums. Either way you'll get an answer in no time.

You should oil it every now and then... Although I have never oiled mine and still seems perfect to me... Ill grab a pic later,

I agree, that board looks kind of plain, but I wonder how it will look (and sound) with a Walnut top and a 5A birdseye maple board.......

yes eys have seen and owned morado, those are bolt on never neck through though correct?

I should have said "dark colored board" to cover Morado

The MS series are neck thru with Morado boards, my BSR5P is a bolt on with Ebony board.
