thank you i think id like to save up for a handmade smith. im doing a few society gigs in the next few weeks ..... so we will see. i appreciate your help. i love the sound of your six (fretless) on the video and also the one you did teen town on.

Well, it's going to be a while before I could get one. Besides, I've played a few Smiths and I've come to the conclusion that they must be played before purchase as they don't all sound good. All the recordings of the Black Tigers (and one of a White Tiger) sound great. I was at a store about 2 yrs ago and they had 4 Smiths and I played them all. Only one sounded good to me but I don't remember what the woods were. The other 3, I just couldn't get them to sound good.

My new (to me) 2001 BSR5PE just arrived and I'm loving it! Been about 2 years since my last Smith and almost instantly felt right at home on it.

Great thread! Sorry for the crappy pics-
I have not been on here recently but would like to join the club. Here is my Smith line up:
#25 with built in envelope filter, '89 BT5 Stack Knob, '89 BT4 Stack Knob. On the "BT4" I have read that its not a true "BT" because it does not have the same lamination, control layout and gold hardware. It seems to have the same electronics and tone as my 5. If anyone has more info, please chime in. I love the bass, regardless!
