Well, a change in the guard. The Black Tiger had a few issues and I decided it wasn't for me. As it was going back, a TB'er decided to let his BSR-GN loose and she got here Friday. Has a nice patina, and is a great sounding/playing instrument.

I got to try out a Black Tiger 6 yesterday. It was a very nice bass. The neck was great. I couldn't quite get a good tone with the preamp and I attribute that to my lack of experience with it. I just wasn't getting that compressed low mid tone that I like.

Just wondering if the mid frequency points are adjustable/selectable from inside the cavity?

They are. The preamp has an EQ inside the cavity.

As an owner of Smith basses (I own several), I must say, don't cast a negative judgement on a new Smith bass. They need time to break in and come into their tone. I actually hated all my Smith basses my first day getting them, but keep in mind, I received them within days of them receiving their final setup. But after a few months, they come into their tone. I will never get rid of them. They sound completely different than they did the first day I got them.

Very different. My Foderas have perfect (for me) necks. The Smith is nice, but not as comfortable. Personal preference.

The tone is also very different. But my EMG PJ sounds very different from the dual coils. The Smith is an entirely different sound as well. The B-string sounds and plays great, and I can get some very nice sounds out of the bass. I haven't had it out on a gig yet so I reserve judgement until it is in the wild. I've had a lot of basses that I liked at home and didn't like on gigs - and vice versa.

I think this is kind of ridiculous. My Smith sounded the same the entire time that I had it. It sounded like a Smith.
