That closest thing you get to an update from Ken is that he will tell you "what" is available. But, still won't give you pictures, weight etc. A few years ago I was looking to purchase a new Smith. Was talking to Ken about one bass he had in stock vs doing a custom build on a new one. He would not send me any pictures of the one he had in stock, would not tell me how much it weighed..etc. He would only tell me the general specs. Typical Ken and his "take it or leave it attitude" Great basses but man, sometimes you have to ask yourself if it is worth it.
I must be the only one with a good experience from Ken. I ordered my bass earlier in the year and I called Ken and talked to him on the phone. Ken was nice enough to send me pics of the tops of my liking to pick from. I asked if he could send me a pic of the bass when it was almost complete and he did just that.
I love Smith Basses and if ken was a hard a££, I'd still buy his basses.

I agree, His web page is haunting to the human eye!, My daughter which is not a player by no means went on the site to contact Ken about strings and said it was the worst web page she has ever seen!Lol.Told me it was confusing and could not wait to get away from it!, Way to busy, As for pics being sent, That is funny!, I`ve played Ken`s basses for 25 + years now, You love him or hate him,But makes one bad ass bass!
He makes a great bass. I do wish he modernized his webpage though. It would be better for business because too. Its always good to look at the MTD or Fodera page and see new basses. It makes me want one. If people saw new Smith basses on his page, it may draw more customers.
6 aggravated my tendinitis (or at least the Smith neck profile combined with my technique did) so I ended up selling it. Am sticking with mostly 4 and some 5 these days.
Wish I knew where my old friend was who had a 5 string ken smith converted to a 6 string. It was too awesome.
That doesn't sound right... nut is too narrow.
My previous Smith. The left hand position was an issue. Couldn't play more than an hour without a wrist ache. The low B was fantastic, but just not the right tone for my taste. Thankfully it found a good home. Beautiful construction and detail. Maybe the five string version would have been a better choice.
I currently own three 6 strings a Ken Smith along with an Elrick and a Zon. Whilst all three are great basses in their own way I find the Ken Smith the most comfortable to play over long periods.
