trans-red one... beautiful

No, i was referring to you and your 800 or so Charvels :D

Koeda can have as many Dukes as he pleases. ;)

You can never have toooo many Dukes! Black one was out of the court and jamming last night for boys night. Very fun bass to play and sounds great.

stonedmotus - mahalos for the kudos. Both the red ones are in pretty sweet condition.

TRichardsbass,
Saw the body for one on da bay a few years back, but not much of a 5 string guy so just looked for fun.

I have been lusting for a fretless alum necker for a while. I finally landed a 1977 Kramer 250B, in great condition. This is hot rodded with two EMGs and has a Schaller adjustable bridge. I still need to string and set it to my liking, but my first impressions are very positive - heavy in more ways than one.

Hope this earns a Kramer club number.

Agreed. Although most of the Finish on the Aluminum on my Lumies neck has worn off :crying::crying::crying:

But RandyMolson, A Schaller bridge was a mighty fine Upgrade. EMG's also, instead of the Hit-or-miss Schaller Active Pickup your Bass originally had.

Looks real good.

No major dings or scratches, and the whole bass looks great.

Oh, I see you replaced it's string nut too.... ;)

BEAUTIFUL bass!

Hi all,

New to the forums, and to the club, but very excited that such a thing exists! Kinda' like the video for "No Rain" by Blind Melon with the bumblebee girl.
Anyway, my first bass was a 1979 DMZ 4001 (walnut with maple laminates), and I currently own a DMZ 5000 with a Badass II bridge and a Basslines Jazz p/u, and love it. I'm about a week away from restoring a maple 79 DMZ 4001 with the funky pickup surround, and I need a little help with the electronics. This is one with 2 mini-toggles. I had one when I was a kid (stolen, alas...), and I thought the toggles were a bass and treble boost/neutral/cut. I can't find anything to support that now, and I'll admit that I wasn't as knowledgeable when I was 16 as I am now at 46! I think now that one is bass cut/neutral/boost, and the other is a series/parallel/split. Does anyone know for sure? There were a lot of exceptions to the specs for the DMZ's, or so I'm discovering.
Next up, a DMZ 4001 8-string conversion which I'm calling the DMZ 8000 project. Pictures and everything! Thanks guys!

Hello Duke 63!!

I have the Kramer Klub Info saved at home, so i'll add you once i get home. ;)

http://www.vintagekramer.com/Electric/wiring-dmz4000preamp.jpeg

Thats a DMZ4000 Pre amp Schematic... it may or may not be helpful.

http://www.vintagekramer.com/Electric/wiring-dukedeluxe.jpeg

And this Duke Schematic may be helpful also.

If you want to take a picture of your Basses electronics cavity, i might be able to help you out.... ;)

Kramer Had rather inconsistent quality back in the day, for example, some Kramer Basses had Active Pre amps, while other basses of the Same Model have Passive electronics with Two Knobs and a 3 way Switch (the Forum Series)

And who knows... maybe somebody who owned the bass before you wanted a "thump" switch and added one! :)

I'll be able to help you out a little bit more when i get home.

Thanks, and Welcome to the Klub!

Hey there,

It's been a long search but thanks to some surfing and this forum, I have finally found out what the bass guitar is that I bought from a 13 year old in my neighborhood in 1991 for $250.

Does this make me a club member?

It's a Kramer Forum of some kind, bolt on rosewood neck, with passive Spector labeled Jazz and P Bass Style pups,(are these EMG's?) two tones, one volume knob and a three way switch, a black Kramer bridge with "rollers", no binding and no diamond inlay. It's this wild purplish "hair band" color, (not my preference)but as guitar is my first instrument, it's my studio bass.

I found it way too "trebly" and clanky sounding, so I put flatwounds on it and almost exclusively us the P Bass neck pup. It is a pleasure to play as the neck is outstanding, and I always felt that I had a pretty nice instrument for the price.

However I wish it sounded more "P Bass ish" Is still too trebly, and not enough punch in the low end. The way this bass sound is probably why some people really like it, but I am a 60's/70's kind of guy, so prefer that kind Fender bass tone........

What Forum version do you think it is? Anything else you can tell me about it?

It;s interesting that you think the Forum's are some of the best Kramer made. As I said, always thought it was well made.

Do you think different PUPS would get me the tone I am looking for, or should I just buy a Fender?

Hello!

Does it look like the Black Bass on the Very Bottom here?

Or are the electronics like that?

If its like the Black bass, then its a Kramer Forum Four.

If its like the Salmon - pink Kramer, then it is a Kramer Striker.

Personally, you might want to put a Dimarzio, or Even Schaller P pickup in it. I rarely ever use a Jazz pickup, and don't even have one in my Forum Three Currently. Spector pickups were the equivalent of EMG Selects or Duncan Designed pickups.

Welcome to the Club - You have #39.

Why not create an account over at Photobucket and host some pictures of it?
