I'd like to present the Krappy Karl 2....since Kevin was nice enough to make a video...I figured it would save me the trouble of having to do it myself (and star in it). We agreed on a design two weeks ago....and here it is already done.

Yay, man !! Welcome to the wonderful world of 2-string bass-playing. You're gonna have fun ! You start seeing your scales going up the neck rather the across the frets .. and it all comes together .. and then eventually a four-string bass just feels weird . LOL, well that's my tale, anyway.

That, and also Fantasia Un Gentle-hombre (sp ??). They seem to be found together on records and CD's.

Well the Indian guy should try out a KRAP-ejji and maybe play it instead on next years Oscars.

Nice to see some one post here, again. I was afraid everyone quit the Klub.

Goatbomb's sort of morphed into Kojące Zające which is all acoustic so I don't use the Krappy there, unfortunately. But no one's left the Klub - some guy wanted to buy my Krappy from me but I refused to sell!

Kevin - regarding Krapfest, I'm in. :D

Here's a pic of me attempting to amuse my 5-month-old son with my ham-handed Krappy touchstyle antics...

I love my Krappy touchstyle. :) Plus, the faceted-fingerboard Twiggy mentioned a page or two ago is mine - it's pretty cool, but is desperately in need of some flatwound strings, since the rounds are chewing up my bow!

Off travelling later in the year, which will require a new Krappy - I'm thinking an 8-string, shorter-scale touchstyle...

here is a crappy bass. this pic is from 1984, we opened up for rick derringer at a college. i found a fender music master neck at a pawnshop for 25$, got ahold of a fake stratocaster plywood body , cut a piece of plastic for the pickguard and every few months i would stretch and glue a different color bandanna around it. it used the pickup from my first bass, a hollowbody cheap violin bass. it was screwed to the body underneath the pickguard. i even took a jigsaw and made the cool cutout on the bottom of the body just like i had seen on a fancy bass... i wish i had it now ! johnny a. staind

Johnny - nice to know that proper rock stars started on, er, less-than-impressive instruments too! :D

My first bass was an "Axe" P-bass copy that I bought for £60 in 1989... I thought it was awesome back then, but I was a 17-year-old rock star wannabe. It was a rhapsody in plywood, and it had this horrible all-over glossy red finish - I stripped the finish off the neck and made my own headstock "decal" with some Letraset lettering and a paintbrush, followed by a coat of varnish. I even upgraded the pickups with a P/J Seymour Duncan set! Eventually I sold it on and got something better, but I actually came across the bass in a music shop a couple of years back - it was more awful than I remember it. The neck was bent like a banana, the frets were horribly uneven, and even with the upgraded pickups it sounded awful. At least my headstock decal still looked half-decent. What's more, the shop I found it in had the cheek to try and sell it for £200! :D

A part of me wanted to buy it for old time's sake, but, even so, I couldn't bring myself to buy it since it was just so nasty!

I gigged my Krappy Traveller #2 EUB (pic above in post #406) for a private party and our guitarist had a friend of his sit in with us for the night who has been a guitarist and keyboardist around here for decades. We were playing mostly California/Southern Rock, blues, Dead and such.

After the first set he comes over to me and says, "That bass sounds great, what is it?" I tell him, "It's a Krappy Bass." and he says, "No, it really sounds great." I explained the name and what they're made from and he said, "Really? That's amazing...It sounds great."

During the night about a dozen people came up to me and asked about it, that's the most I've ever had do that. All agreed that it sounded great.
