The Kustom Club

since i no longer have any of my K-200's (i've owned 4 of them with 2-15 JBKL cabs) i still wanted to capture their tone so i built a pedal using the original Kustom schematic and used NOS OEM transistors in it. my favorite color was Cascade (turquoise) sparkle, so here's a pic of my tribute to it:

View attachment 5142556 Good Morning, Talkbass Kustomerz,

This is my first time down this aisle, so greetings to you! I'm looking forward to back reading through Kustom pics and stories. I don't currently own a Kustom bass amp, and probably won't anytime soon (but y'never know).

I do have imaginary Kustom rigs and a couple of pinchable charcoal sparkle 4x8 Kolumns in constant use as part of my office/music room AV system. They are powered by a small stereo Yorkville powered mixer. Charcoal sparkle is my favorite Kustom Kolor because it shows off the tuck and roll and goes with anything.

Kustom represents to me a couple of things: Hot Rods from a time when American Cars were recognizably the tops of the heaps, and the mid century modern suburban garages that so many aspiring bands called home. My Kustoms smelled of poured concrete for months after they arrived, undoubtedly from sitting unused for years in a somewhat humid Missouri garage.

Viva la Kustom!

My 70's (3-15 CTS) cab had the smell of a new car. All of that Naugahyde. I guess. :)

Hello,

A year back ago I bought a used DE300HD and DE410H. The setup has great tone, sound and I'm really satisfied with both the cab and head.

Even though I have an issue time from time with DE300HD. The volume knob is not always responding and has a scratching sound when I turn it. When I turn it enough times the volume is back and I can play at desired volume. What causes this and how do I fix it?

Also... I bought both the head and cab used and the owners manual for the DE300HD wasn't included. I've tried to download it from Kustom site but with no luck. Where can I find one?

Thanks in advance from a fellow Kustom owner!

It sounds as though the volume potentiometer is dirty. The easy solution (which works most of the time) is to spray control cleaner into the openings on the back (usual access is near the tabs that solder to the circuit board. Be sure to get one with a lubricant in it. I'm not sure if you can get DeOxit products in Sweden, but they make several. Don't use "Contact Cleaner" unless the can also indicates that it has a lubricant in it.

Personally, I use TV Tuner Cleaner by RadioShack. RadioShack has been out of business for years, but I have several cans tucked away.

I found this YouTube video that covers some of the points I made.

Here's the link I found for the manual: KUSTOM DE300 HD OWNER'S MANUAL Pdf Download

Thank you, I will try the spray!
I saw the manual on ManualsLib.com but are unsure if I really want to download it from the site. After some google attempts it seems that the security of the site is questionable. I guess I need to contact Kustom for the manual.

Thansk again!
