I also have a set of FL's on my Squier Jazz. A great pairing. Definitely the stiffest set of flats I have, but I don't mind. The feel & tone is just great.

I also have a set of FL's on my Squier Jazz. A great pairing. Definitely the stiffest set of flats I have, but I don't mind. The feel & tone is just great.
I have them on a bass with a single humbucker. Great tone, but they are a quite slippery. Maybe they will get less slick with age. Like me, lol.
I've had flats on this '78 P-Bass since I first got it in 1988. First, Roto 77's for several years; then a set of Fender 9050L flats. They were... nice, but did not give me the "Vintage P-Bass with Flats" tone I was looking for. So, I replaced them with a set of 760FLs; they're on a Dano DC59 Pro now. But, while I liked the La Bellas a lot, they were not quite what I wanted from my P-Bass. The original, '70s Squier-made Fender flats had a little brighter, mid range sound than the DTFs; and that was what I was looking for. I finally found what I wanted with GHS M3050 Precision flats. So, that's what my "welcome to 1959" P-Bass wears under that bridge-cover-with-mute. As for the 760Fls that came off? Just because they weren't quite right on that one bass, I wasn't about to just get rid of them. They're now comfortably ensconced on my '88 Kramer Forum III. Where they sound just fine...

I just got my first set of 760 FLs for my new (second hand) Classic 60s Jazz Bass, but have not installed them yet.
After reading this thread (which I stumbled on just now), I get the impression that the Labellas would better fit my Precision tonewise, and the Fender 9050L that are on my P now would be better on my J.
Off course I could just swap and try them on both, but I also read that swapping strings between basses could damage the strings.
What would you cook up with these ingredients:
- 60s Jazz Bass
- 70s Precision
- Labellas 760 FL
- Fender 9050L (45-100)
I love to play a lot of different styles, most 70-80s funk (Bobby Watson, Verdine White, Leon Sylvers, Bernard Edwards...), Yachtrock (Doobies, Steely, HallOats, Loggins...) and the grindier but not too heavy 70-80s rock (Aerosmith, Black Crowes, Thin Lizzy).
And what do you think about swapping strings between basses?

Thanks for the kind words .. well, I don’t use much as I have my equipment at one of my buddies’ place .. I simply use an iRig 2 connected to my iPhone with GarageBand and the Ampeg SVT virtual amp. emulator (no effects)I love it! I use Labella flats on my 2 P Basses. For classic tone and longevity, IMHO it doesn't get any better for a P Bass.
Not just my P bass...I have them installed on my Rogue VB100 and Squier SS. I have been addicted to LB flats every since the '60s although I did have black nylon strings installed on my Tele Bass back then.

I end up putting La Bellas on every bass. I've enjoyed some other strings, but I can get all.the tone I want with some Deep Talkin' Flats! I am pretty much a die hard flats guy though.
Sometimes reading the posts around here make me wish I had held on to some of the basses I've sold over the years. In general I don't want more than a couple, though; one fretted and one fretless. I sometimes think it could be nice to have a bass with rounds for certain recording situations but I haven't went there yet lol.

I much prefer the LTF-4A. The 760L is too stiff for me and the FX set is way too thin and loose. The LTF is just the perfect LaBella.
I have the FL on my P-bass right now and can't wait to get them off. I have a new set of LTF arriving today, which I shouldn't have taken off in the first place.
