I always use LaBella too, until I got my Stingray a few weeks back. I tried LaBallas and it was fine but it wasn't giving me the bite and bark I wanted from the Stingray. It was just - boring. Rounds are out of the question, so I tried TIs. OMG...absolutely heavenly. Absolute perfection on a Stingray. The looser feel that I never liked on a P-bass works perfectly on the Stingray, since you are plucking way closer to the bridge where the tension is higher. The brighter and more mid-focused tone brings out the stingray bark and bite without getting harsh and with the EQs set flat is so creamy and old-school funk. It's just breathtaking.

The sad facts are, it is a long drive for you and, with my COPD and with COVID and the Flu going around, we have to go virtual. I will do the best I can to document via pics. We have to do the best we can with what we've got ;).

Just ordered another set for my newly acquired Am. Ultra P-bass; got several sets of TI JF344 at home, which I previously removed from basses where LaBella DTF 760FL have been installed, but I just can’t adjust anymore to their lower stiffness and I’ve got problems in adjusting the neck relief as well .. so I ordered another set at a good price from a small shop which had them in same plus free shipping :thumbsup:

For my purposes, I really like stainless Rotosound Swing Bass 66. Particularly when they have had a few weeks or months on them. They retain a slam that many other old rounds do not have IME. I’ve recorded with them at indoor and outdoor gigs, and listening to the playback, I can hear them much better in the mix than other rounds, even at moderate volume levels. With other rounds I often need to goose the mids (and volume) a lot more to achieve a good strong cut in a busy mix. Im using primarily P or P-style basses, and the tone and feel of RS66 feel like “home” to me (for the styles I play). To me, having a bass with RS66 compliments one with 760FL; they both provide classic well-known tones, they have weight and power in a mix, and they leave me with a smile on the job!

More info please (the photos hide the gauges and the bridge) Is this a taper-core .128 or a full-wrap B-string? I found the taper core .128 didn’t work well in short scale, though it was great in long scale. I also found the round-wound RX full-wrap .125 B-string is great!

Yeah, this is the .128 tapered B string. I haven't noticed any issues or oddities with it, but this is my first time coming across a tapered string. When I first put it on I wondered if there was something wrong with it, but a bit of googling eased my mind.

I've only had flats on a couple of basses before, but the whole point of this bass was to see if I could approach those classic tones on a limited budget and on five strings. So far so good, we'll see how it sounds after my horrible soldering skills when the passive electronics go in.

Nicely bumped @Ricky Rioli! Whether you have a maple fb or not, LB Flats deliver a great tone. I wouldn't have anything else on my three basses...

I was able to get NOS a couple of mid-scale 760FL-M sets when LB stopped making them. Since my hands don't do conventional long scale 34-inch Fender standard anymore, the strings complete my mid-scale Jaguar bass funk machine. At the rate of which I play this particular bass for certain every-so-often gigs, and the longevity of these flats generally, I reckon I'm good for as long as I will ever play bass. It is. The bass was set up with Pro Steels and that to make a specific sound. But the need for that sound has gone, so....

If the 760FLs stick around, I'll be swapping it for something alnico. In the meantime, turning the volume down to 8 helps it play nicely with flats :)

Previously I've tried the 760FM, on my SB-1. I'm finding a couple of differences between these 760FLs and those 760FMs very good for me.

To get their character out, the FM needed more effort putting in than my fingers enjoy. These FL feel just right. Glad I skipped the FS set.

I found the 49 G on the FM set very frustrating, just too husky / woody. This 43 G has enough bite for me.

I've recently been playing a 45-65-85-105 set of a Chromes. I really enjoy playing them, they suit me very well. I'm hoping, though, that these La Bellas encourage me to develop a bit of variation in how I play.

Previously this bass had a 50-65-85-110 set of Pro Steels, which have a total tension of 180 lbs. This 760FL set seems to be a little more than that.

760 FL just went on my ‘57 reissue. Ive tried LaBella DTFs in the past but this might be my first time using the FLs. So far so good. They are already breaking in after a few weeks. Balance and tone is excellent. No need for truss rod adjustment coming from unknown nickel rounds.

For the record, I am a flats hater. That these are still on is a testament to being a good string. Honestly I really like them so far.
