what makes you say this? i recently bought the 760FL set with thw tapered B directly from Labella.

**The LaBella 760FL Deep-Talkin' Flats LOVE Thread**

Have not, no. I’ve tried fender 9050s, EB Bobalt, LaBella Jamersons, and GHs. My favorites on a precision bass have been the GHS. The FLs arrived yesterday and I installed them and set up the bass, but didn’t get to play them much.
The Olintos are great, similar in tension to the FL but they have that extra thump of the jamerson set. They do have a lot of the GHS character too but with more overtones, which I preferred.
I too have another bass with GHS stainless flats and to me the FLs feel smoother and with less tension.
For me, the biggest difference between the two is tone. They feel very similar in terms of tension.

It's been a couple of weeks now, and I am VERY happy with the FL set. They sound and feel terrific, and are breaking in nicely.
On their website it says they stopped production of the tapered B string in May. I ordered some from Sweetwater and they came without the taper, so I looked into why. I really enjoyed the tapered B, but I'll have to get used to it I guess.
ah i see. that's unfortunate. i have used that B for a long time and it works very well. maybe there are some left at the various online sellers.
I recently changed from flats to rounds on my 4 string Fender P bass because the rounds song so good on my American Pro II 5 string P. From the first note it just didn’t sound right to me. I gave the rounds about a month to settle in but they weren’t a good fit tone wise for me. (The same brand rounds sound great on my Ric).
I previously loved the sound of LaBella 760FM however this time I decided to order a set of 760FL. These play quite easily! After a day to settle in I needed to loosen the truss rod to add relief back to .010”. I then set string height to 5/64” at the 17th fret. The strings play so easily and sound awesome! I’m fortunate to have a P bass with flats and a P bass with rounds. If the bass picks the strings my MIM Fender P picked LaBella 760FL’s

I recently replaced an old set of 760FL with a new set and have been having issues with several G strings and wondered how common it is.
The first one that came with set had intonation issues(as suggested by a tech who was doing a setup). Labella sent me a replacement and it the windings near the bridge had separated, and it sounded ultra twangy. I have since gotten two more replacements and bkth have sounded twangy and bright, one of these two also had a visible seperation in windings near the bridge.
At this point I have put very old G string back on as it matches the rest of the new set while none of these newer strings come close. I do notice that my old set of strings have silk at the bridge end while none of these newer 760FL's have silk at the bridge end. I can't help but wonder if this has something to do with it.
Are others running into this? Would going up to 760FS possibly help avoid this G string issue.

Whilst the topic of using FLs in the top loaded vs. through body position has been discussed, I just bought a new set that had a definitive warning label covering 2/3 of the back of the package. The verbiage seemed like it was written for five year olds who can't obey the rules, so it's clearly a sensitive topic for LaBella. First sentence: "These strings can only be top loaded." I had some spare time today and recorded my MIM Fender P Bass w/ Fralin Standard wind pickup, .047uF Orange Drop Capacitor and LaBella 760FL 43-104 strings. In the recording, which was recorded by plugging the instrument cable directly into an Apollo Twin audio interface, I played finger style with the tone control at 100%, 50%, and 0% repeating various sections of the song for comparison. I find the strings very articulate with the tone at 100%.
I subscribed to this thread out of curiosity - finally got a set of the 760FLs on my main bass about a week ago. So far, huge victory.
