**The LaBella 760FL Deep-Talkin' Flats LOVE Thread**

I caved in and installed my new set on my backup bass (Schecter Raiden Special-4) today. Holy stiffness, Batman! I knew they’d be stiff but this is a lot. I’m going to try them, but this might be a bit too much for me. My Peavey Fury IV (my #1) wears TIJFs; that will explain the significant difference.

Interesting as I find them reasonably easy to play and not much different than rounds.
I find they can be set for lower action without fret buzz than rounds.
When you have a chance take a moment and check and set neck relief and then string height. This might help make them play easier.
I bet I've got some tweaking to do on it. I really want to like these; they feel incredible under the fingertips. Perhaps I just need to lower the action, like you've said.
lower action and you really dont need to push down that hard. just enough to get contact with the fret.
Definitely true. I usually keep my action a hair over 4/64. I had sent my bass out for some work and when I picked it up the action was under 4/64. And it played so easily with no fret buzz. I’ve never had my action that low with roundwounds
Aside from the slight difference in string gauges, is there any tonal / feel variations between 760FL's and 760FX's?
A bit yes. They feel much more bouncy without being floppy. FL feels pretty stiff even with the action slammed. FL gave my fretting hand pains. FX would never. FX tone is slightly brighter but yet somehow feels more balanced and a little bit more broken in right off the bat.
They look like Low Tension Flats to me. 760FL silks are red while the LTF are sort of a magenta color.

I’ve been loving the feel of these 760FLs. The best descriptor I can think of is “luxurious”. They feel expensive. My #1 bass for the past year has been my Peavey Fury IV, which is currently wearing TIJFs. I love the TIJFs, too, but the 760FLs inspire me in a different way. I’ve got some GAS for a StingRay 5 of some kind, to put some DTFs on. Until then, I’ll keep playing my backup bass with these DTFs.
Footnote- lowering my action really helped. I’m smitten with these strings.
Quoting my own post from 12 hours ago to say that I am very seriously considering ordering a set of these for my Peavey. Sure, variety is nice, but the fact is that my Peavey is all around a better bass than my Schecter. With 760FLs, it just might be perfect.
Unfortunately, I have had a somewhat disappointing experience with La Bella. Over the past 10 years, I have had many different types of La Bella Flats on my basses and have had problems with D and G strings buzzing more than once. La Bella has been nice about sending new strings but I have really had a lot of problems with it over the years. In the end, I ended up dropping La Bella altogether because the quality control was so poor. The strings cost over 60 dollars where I live(!).
Last week, I decided to give La Bella another shot and bought a set of 760FL and of course the strings have the classic buzz on the D and G strings from the 7th to the 15th fret.
I write to La Bella and get a quick response back that it is the strings that have been twisted when I put them on the bass. Or that it is a setup problem and I have to take the bass to a guitar technician to check the bass.
I work as a guitar technician in a guitar shop on as my day job so I know that it is not my installation of the strings, or the setup of my bass or the frets that is the problem.
I wrote back that I am a guitar technician so the problem is not the installation of strings and besides that I have never had problems with any other strings than La Bella DTF. I can put brand new roundwounds on the same bass and there is no buzz or sitar sound. And since then La Bella has not responded to my email. The last response was April 10th. I am quite disappointed that there is no more help to be had from them, especially when the strings are so expensive.

In 2015 I had something like this happen once to a G string on a set of 760FLs. The strings were on the bass when I bought it, and the friend I bought it from had not had any problems with them but I probably played it a lot more than he did. I ended up swapping out the whole set of LaBellas for a set of D’Addario chromes which have been on ever since without any issues. They could be FL‘s. Over the years, the red silks have varied in brightness, some look more salmon to me than red.
Attention TB hive mind. I just put a set of 760’s on one of my Yamaha BB434’s and I made sure to order the “through body” set. I’m noticing some fairly large gaps in the windings where the strings go over the saddles.

The more I play my P with the 760's the more I think maybe I should have bought a second P at some point. It sounded great with the nickel wound Rotos and possibly even better with the 760s... I have no time to be constantly switching them, but no, I had to have a Jazz and the Yamaha for "variety".....
I noticed the same thing, mainly on low B and E and they don't sound off or dull at all.
