**The LaBella 760FL Deep-Talkin' Flats LOVE Thread**

just tried these for the first time, WOW. I had no idea. They really bridge the gap perfectly between what I love about LTF's and DTB's. plenty of rich lows and mids with a nice pliable feel and thumpy but not at all murky. LOVE EM on my Wilkins P.

Welcome to the club. I keep trying other stuff but when I plug in my P Bass with clean 760FLs, I OWN the mix!

I use the 760FL-M set on my Gibson SG bass (medium scale because I put a Hipshot SuperTone bridge on this bass, and it has more distance between the ball end and the saddles than the original Gibson bridge, so the 760FL-S set isn't quite long enough -- the silk bumps up against the nut). I love their sound.

I've played a number of different flats and I'm about to try these. Which length would you buy for a '62 P bass? I'm guessing the regular long scale, not the extra long...

Yeah, regular long scale works fine for Precisions and Jazzes.

Just to be sure, I assume your P is NOT string-through-body? I think you'd need extra-long in that case. For the traditional top-loading P or J bridge, regular long is best.

Strung up my P with these last night and was shocked at how light they are. Very similar to the feel of TI’s. I haven’t plugged the bass in yet but acoustically they sound really great. I generally play with a medium touch and with the TI’s I remember having to adjust my playing to be lighter.

Tension and stiffness become higher on 45-105 / 49-109 set.
I have 2 packs of 49-109 in my drawer and i have no dare to string on my squier CV 60P , but somebody mention that G string sound good in heavy set.

After about a 5 year experiment with GHS precision flats (nice, different), I reinstalled an old set of 49-109 La Bellas on my '66 Precision. Yes, it all came back. Something very special about La Bellas on a P ....

You might find the same magic only with less work, with the 760FL set.

I just put these on my "Steinberger" Spirit XT-2 a few days ago, via a headstock converter.
Oh dear fluffy lord, with both pickups on full it suddenly sounds HUGE!!!

I play DB regularly so I'm not noticing that 49-109 is heavy. But if the FL set does something nice or different in the tone department, then I'm interested!

I prefer the 760FS, which I have on one of my Precisions. I do have a set of 760FL's that I used to have on the same bass, but just prefer the feel and sound of the FS more. I have one Precision that has a finicky neck that doesn't like high tension strings, and it currently has TI Jazz Flats, which feel great and the neck really likes those, but I'm not super stoked on the sterile, uninspiring sound of the TI's. I may try those 760FL's again and switch out the TI's.

I have them on a Tribute L2000 with rosewood board (both pups, parallel, active on). After playing the same setting with a Sadowsky RV5 with steels for the last 9 years, I am digging how fat, warm, and supportive these strings sound. I am not missing anything in terms of clarity.

760FLs are great on a Jazz Bass too! Not sure why I doubted it but, it's true. It's such a classic sound on a P bass, who would have thought that translated over to a J? . . . Everyone but me, probably.

P + La Bella Flats + finger-style = James Jamerson vibe.
J + La Bella Flats + pick-style = Joe Osborn vibe.

Still my main string even after my all my flings with other strings. I have my main set that I have put on 5-6 Basses over the past 3-4 years. They are currently on my Music Man Sabre. These strings are pure gold. I have another set that is about 2 years old and currently not on a bass and two new sets waiting in reserve. I also have Basses with GHS Precision Flats and another with Ernie Ball Group lll Flats. I had a set of TIs on my fretless and they sounded great but I’ve decided Sunbeams are my fretless strings. Yeah I’m a string nerd and I’m proud.
