**The LaBella 760FL Deep-Talkin' Flats LOVE Thread**

I decided to try the 760FS set on my '72 Precision which has a big, chunky neck that can handle the additional tension. I thought the heavier gauge would offer an even bigger sound.

Nope :thumbsdown:

I sold the 760FS set in the classifieds the next day. The 760FL set wins by a big margin with it's balanced tone and tension. I think La Bella just made the 760FS set for OCD people who like to have gauges that end with the number five ;)

I totally agree with everything you said, Steve! The 760FS offers no 'upside' and some 'downsides'...for me anyway.

Yeah that's what these strings always do in my experience but the D string settles in over time. Play them daily for a few hours and you'll be happy with them once they mellow. Enjoy!

Yes, the FL's are orange-ish. I find them a good choice for medium action. ...my faves, actually.

I've never had this happen personally. They're usually quite balanced out of the pack, though the E string can be a little deader than the rest sometimes.

Anyone else had issues with the G string on their FL set? I bought a set, and the G was buzzy. Checked the nut and it was fine. Labella graciously sent me a replacement string, and that one buzzes too. At every fret. With plenty of clearance, and a well fitting nut. Not sure what the issue is, but its a bummer because I LOVE the feel of the set. Replaced it with DR legends which do OK but not nearly as vibe-y as the FL's.

When I switchd to these strings I had to redo my set up. This set is designed to have balanced tension across all four strings rather than numbers that end with zeros and fives. I don’t know what you were using before, but since the D & G strings are a bit lighter than some other sets you may have to raise the bridge saddles to compensate. You will probably have to reset the intonation as well.

I did all that. Raised the saddles, checked the nut slot for a loose fit, adjusted the relief. Even with the action set way higher than I would normally play, both new G strings buzzed. Eric at labella was kind enough to send a replacement for the first G, I didnt want to bug him again. So I just threw in the towel unfortunately, but man I loved the feel and sound of those FL's

This is not the first time I've heard of the buzzy G on the 760FL; there have been a few threads regarding that in the last couple of years. Seems like there is an issue with the string itself, not just the setup on the bass.

If you're looking for an alternative, I would suggest the GHS Precision Flats. I'm absolutely loving the light set (45-95) I'm trying right now (3 wks so far). The same old-school low end goodness but in a more consistent package. Nicely balanced both in tone and tension and very comfortable to play on.

thanks for the recommendation. What do you think of the FL's, vs the GHS, vs the Low Tension Flats? I was thinking of going that route next, but now I'm curious about the GHS set.
