The Last GREAT band

Red Hot Chili Peppers are not getting enough love here. I think I saw one mention.

When I think of great bands, I think of ones that have been doing it forever and can still get it done. Other than U2, no one on the scene has been doing it longer than RHCP.

Tool will go down as one of the best hard rock bands ever but they release an album like every 18 years. Radiohead also awesome. Kings of Leon will be around a while and will put out consistently good, not great, pop records (btw, can we talk about KoL as the most successful band since RHCP to have a "lead bass" player?)

Jack White doesn't count as a band (though I love him so).

Foo Fighters

I would like to add STP to that.

I'm going to check out RadioHead. The only song I have ever heard of theirs is "Creep" which I like.

It sucks that american radio is so bad that you have to search and dig for good music. Atleast in my area it is.

I stumbled on Rose Hill Drive & Stone Axe in the last year & I dig what they are doing, but I wouldn't call them great yet.

I am & always will be a Rush fan, but they have been an established "Great" band in my mind for a long, long time and still putting out great music.

To me I think Foo Fighters and STP are tops for the last 10 - 20 years! Ofcourse there are alot more close but not quite "Great" bands I could list.

My favorite bands to emerge in the past decade and release multiple excellent albums are Queens of the Stone Age and Drive-By Truckers. Both have achieved enough to be all-time greats IMO, especially in their respective genres.

Going back to the 1990's, Radiohead, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains come to mind.

I like a lot the old Prog Rock bands like Yes, Genesis, Rush, King Crimson, Marillion. So even though there have been some nice newer bands around most of them didn't trig my attention. But then a year ago I saw a live concert on TV, it was a band called Mew. Amazing and exciting band. They are from Denmark and they rock.

Check out!! this band is addictive!!

+1 to this. They're varied enough for me to love everything they do. I think LaBrie's voice is a nice change of pace from most metal I listen to (think BTBAM, Meshuggah) and another +1 to their musicianship. They're all brilliant, especially Rudess. He owns the keys.

But as for the greatest band, currently playing, who are popular, great musicians and kill it live? Can't go past Muse, imo.

Agreed. But it seems band=some type of rock according to the responses. No mention of anyone like Dirty Dozen Brass, The Roots, etc.
