I got "Michelle" down on bass, and have been working on it, on guitar (capo'd at the 5th fret). The Beatles Complete Chord Songbook is an excellent reference book.

"This Bird Can Sing" is a great bass workout. My last classic rock/pop band did a few Beatles songs:

"Birthday"
"Day Tripper"
"Get Back"
"Let it Be/Hey Jude" (medley)
"Paperback Rider"
"Revolution"
Ticket to Ride"
"Two of Us"
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"

And a Beatles-inspired version of "Stairway to Heaven"

Here is a demo recording of "Paperback Writer" from an earlier incarnation of my old band (pay little attention to the not so great vocals ).

I couldn't open the demo on my iPad, but I'll try it on my PC later.

As to the video, excellent version and great production!

Going to listen to AYBCS...:bassist:

We're doing a good job here living up to our club name :D

Happy I've learned a couple more new songs these last few days. "Michelle" is a really good one and I enjoy it. The other is from the "Frozen" soundtrack, "Love is an Open Door". Fun bassline.

I tried "Hello Goodbye". It stretches my fretting hand more than I'm comfortable with so I took a break. It will take some work!

You can put someone else in slot 119, I don't do club numbers & have since changed my login ID.
I'm still a lone-wolf & got really tired of explaining to people that I'll never be in a band.

Other folks always respond with the same stuff, playing in a band will improve your ear, but after YEARS of playing alone my ear hasn't improved in the slightest.
Not all of us have the same level of pitch-perception or sense of timing/rhythm.

Great thread!
I certainly fit here; my Bassment is my refuge! I was in a Dadband a couple of years ago which fizzled out due to 'artistic differences' :meh:
I am currently very happy and content to learn and jam along to cover songs. In 2019 I challenged myself to learn a new song every week in order to keep me motivated and had lots of fun doing it!
To answer some of the questions raised in the course of this thread...I work full time and have a family, I own 3 basses; '87 Warwick Streamer, '10 Squier VM70s Jazz and a '14 Ibanez ABG. Play through a Yorkville 400 combo or a Fender Bronco 40. Almost always play standing. :bassist:
Anything else you'd like to know, just ask.
Cheers!

edit: oops, forgot to ask for a # ;)

In short, they were more 'artistic' than me :eyebrow: the old covers vs originals thang. The focus was writing, jamming and 'noodling around on guitar to find something' while my preference is to play songs when together. Noodle on your own time ;)
To be fair, the other players all had decades more experience than me and I certainly learned a lot. We all just seem to be playing for incongruent reasons.
I play because I enjoy it, it's good for my brain and helps me shut off the outside world, already have a job thanks.
