The Mediocre Bassist Club

Well I have had a few salty snacks in various watering holes. So I'm kinda doubting this crowd would raise any objections. But let's see if anyone goes beyond the 'meh'.
More like "blue cheetos and beer-ish," but here you go... :wacky:

;)

EDIT TO ADD: This is certainly not to suggest, in any way, that the response of the people of Ukraine to this invasion has been "1109" in any respect.

Question: How is the balance when you play standing? I'll ask @RodRy and @Morrighan for their take on this as well. Which I may have already done. But I can't remember...LOL!!!

I'll probably like the switches for a thumb-rest, given how I play.
Had to go get Ace, strap it on, and play a bit. I generally play standing, and my 3" wide straps from Invalid Link Removed holds my basses like a dream.

I use my right forearm to stabilize the body when I play, so neck dive is not very much a thing for me. That said, if I let go of the bass, it shifts to an angle of about 20 degrees above horizontal. So, some neck dive, a touch more than some other of my basses, but not as bad as my Mouse was before I put Sperzel tuners on it.

I don't have any problem with the buttons, and find them useful to jump to a particular tone just by a push of one or two buttons. Jumping from Ace to Jade (Yamaha Motion B), I notice immediately how fast and easy the cat's neck is to play. It's a great shape. The headstock? Meh. I would have prefered something smaller and neater, but I get the nod to the Panther. I've toyed with shortening it by about 1/4", but it seems more effort than it's worth.

All in all, a very nice bass. Might have to play it a bit more this weekend...
:D

I am pretty sure I fit in this group…no piccolo like runs or solos..just try to do a good steady bottom end….do I get a # ?
You DO get a number, if you want it. Your number is 1109, like everyone else except @El Diablo Rojo and me. The Red Devil is a free man, and this here Bear...well, the last time I let someone hang a number on me, they sent me to places with unpleasant climates where the local people were rude to me.

Good morning everyone! At work second cup of coffee in my left hand. My right hand not so good at gripping things right now.

10 stitches and a fracture incurred Saturday.
Must have severed a lot of nerves also, since I have experienced almost zero pain. Bass playing will devolve to below mediocrity. I can play just using my thumb but it will not achieve full 1109 status, I have petitioned the Hoff, to give me special dispensation, so that my number is not revoked, but I have not yet received a response.
Hope everyone has a great day, and keep the brave Ukrainians in your thoughts and prayers.

Ugh. I've broken almost all of the bones in both hands and wrists (along with several others). Some of them more than once. You'll heal and live to play again!

On another note, I'm a bit nervous about my first gig with the new band, coming up on the 18th. We're not nearly as tight as we'd like to be, and I still toss in a clam or two periodically as I don't know the material as well as I'd like. I do have recordings now, so am listening to them. A LOT.

I'm also concerned about what's going on in Ukraine. My son asked me today how to buy rubles on the currency exchange. I'm starting to think that's a good idea, though it'll be years before it's worth selling them from what I'm hearing in the news. This is likely to be a long protracted conflict. My heart and prayers are out to all of those affected.

Stay safe my friends.

6.7 pounds here, I got a boat anchor Cat ;)
and experience neither of the quirks you mention

Wow, 6.7lbs? Ugh!! -How can you deal with such a ~heavy~ bass!! Heh, heh, my Cat is 6lbs and .04 (that's point zero four!) ounces... :smug:

My thing is, when I'm singing, I don't want to deal with neck dive. It's just one more thing to distract me when I need all the focus I can get. I am going to have to pay attention next time I practice (it's been too long! I've been way too taken up with trying to get the recording project done) what it is I'm doing with my right forearm.
Youse guys gotta read my Cat posts more carefully... Nowadays I only play sitting down and I do not use a strap either because of neck and back problems. So the Cat when played like that has a headstock that dives straight for the floor muy rapido unless I control it with my right forearm over it's body. Whereas the Mikro I can actually let go of with my hands and it will balance (carefully) in my lap without diving!
So if you stand, and if you use a strap either standing or sitting, you probably would experience only slight neck dive. Someone else on the Cat thread mentioned he experienced some slight neck dive when wearing a strap but he fixed it by extending the strap button on the Cat's upper horn. So I'm not imagining this...

Anywayyyyy..... I'm a compulsive sort who likes to change my gear, -basses, drums, motorcycles (once) and what have you, to make it more my own. So here's some pics of my first change to my Cat bass. It's a very easy and minor one, just larger reflective stickers for side dots. But it makes a great difference to this geezer when it comes to playing in dimmer light!
Enjoy!-->>>

Guess my main bass is overweight. It's a tad over 7 pounds, at about 7 and 3 oz (some sort of headless multi-scale thing, 5 string). My J-bass, on the other hand, weighs about 10. I rarely play it. The old G&L (1984) is 8 1/2. It's tolerable.

Anyway, I'll see if I can get someone to shoot some gig video in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it'll go well. It'll be a ton of fun. That's the main point anyway.

Ouch! Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. All of your 1109 friends will cover for you while you heal!
Amen!!
Because I live in a world where it's better to look good than be good (I'd actually like to be good but....) I bought one of these today.View attachment 4605128

I’ve always wanted a JC. Great choice!!
Welcome aboard!!

As I’m fond of saying- “If you can’t play the part..look the part!”

Nothing beats Yooper style pickled eggs with a crisp beer…I make my own. And the label.

“Boneless chicken dinner”. Lol :drool::woot:

Good mornng everyone. Tea blah blah blah.

In the social media world, since the Russian honey pot has gone dry, it's amazing how much nicer my timelines look. Where are the trollbots? Mentions of the mothertrucking convolvograds has dropped dramatically.

What galls me is that it has become painfully obvious that "they" knew who "they" were the whole time, but it took pushing Europe into war for "them" to shut down "their" accounts.

This century's "Nuremburg Trials" are gonna be a hoot.

Ummm I guess “yooper” needs a bit of explanation to some of our members. (Not VK- he grew up in Detroit I think- Where can you get a coney in Deutschland??)
This little report may help.

Where I was in Northern Vermont comes close, but the accent is different..:woot:
"Yooper" does indeed refer to a native of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. U P. "Dih yew pee." Yooper. Get it?
(I know, but it's yoopers. Come on!)

Coneys are still to be found all over the world - in the wild, as children's pets, in petting zoos, and on fur farms.

I am pretty sure I fit in this group…no piccolo like runs or solos..just try to do a good steady bottom end….do I get a # ?
Welcome aboard! As others may have mentioned, your number shall be 1109. We're all 1109 here, except for an ornery parrot farmer (love ya, Mike!) and some lost souls from the before time. Ansyway, you may have gathered that there's cheetos and grape sode in the lounge car. Help yourself!

Beware the Hoff!

Stay fresh, cheese bags!

That's fantastic. :roflmao:

Pooty only wishes he could play a piano like that.

As I jumped right in the pool with y'all and was instantly welcomed. I didn't ask a critical question....who or what is The Hoff?
The Hoff is The Hoff (a-cough, a-cough),
He lurks about, both on trains and off,
Leading to smirks or occasional scoff,
Because he gets 'chopped into all kinds of... stoff. :wacky:
