The Mediocre Bassist Club

Seems it's not an illusion, the Acinonyx neck at 1.4" at the nut is actually narrower than the Stang's 1.5". It's easily the narrowest of all bass necks in my collection.
:D
This I know.. But the Mustang's neck doesn't feel wider to me; ~for me it actually feels easier and more comfortable to play than the Cat's does. So I'm thinking it's the 'Stang's rounder 9.5 radius that makes me like it better than the 12" radius neck on the Cat. And I do like necks that are thin at the nut; I have none that are not at least 1.5" and I even sold my ultra light Dano Longhorn because I hated it's 1.75" width at the nut. But I still prefer the Mustang's 1.5" neck over the Cat's 1.4" because of the rounder shape.
The radius of a bass's neck is not always something people think about or consider, but I found for me it makes a big difference...

One time in my younger days I had just gotten a fresh beer, a Guinness. Finally he said, “you’re such a p****, I bet you wouldn’t dump that beer on my head.”

He was wrong. :D

I expect the bastid bought you a pint as he schlepped away!!

In college I would have been too intimidated by that lady to talk with her in a bar.

But would have admired her and dreamed up the perfect introduction on my walk home later. By myself.
:bag::facepalm::bookworm:

:roflmao:

One time when I was playing at Molly's, after our set this guy started sorta haranguing me about my bass—Why was I playing that big bass? "That bass is so big! Why don't you play a smaller bass? You should play a smaller bass." I mean, on and on. I finally just said, "Look, I like this bass. If you think my playing sucks, whatever. But why are you saying this?" He then said, "Because I find you really attractive, and you intimidate me."

I was just flabbergasted.

I hope this doesn't sound like bragging, I realize it kind of does. But I saw myself as a sort of intellectual introvert and was always pretty clueless when I got that kind of attention.

Hey, that's been my method too!

Might explain why I'm still single... :roflmao:

Might explain why I'm still single! :D

Nah, at one point he was throwing lit matches at my hair. He got tossed. The bartender comped my beer.

If we ever are able to get together over an adult beverage or two, I've got some stories from when I used to play pool.

For the record, I taught myself to be extroverted, even though I'm an introvert. It's how I met my wife. We're a couple of months away from our 28th anniversary, and still happy.

I think this is a new record for a Wednesday…7 pages….:hyper::hyper::hyper:

ummm. Welcome New Members!!!
@OtherLisa !! Great story and pic. IM intimidated…any pic of Monstro is appreciated!!

Wide strap for heavy bass!! Yes. Ask @Morrighan about Jerri’s wook.

Hoff??? He’s charmingly pretty laid back about all the fuss, I think. :roflmao:

Blue laws in Provincial Massachusetts forbade selling alcohol on Sundays last Century. But if the town was within 10miles of a “selling” state, you were allowed to sell. Lucky for me, next town was in the range of good ol’ New Hampshire (Live Free….or DIE!!!) so I could grab suds for the Patriot Games. They were hapless back then- if they split with the Jets and lost all the other games, it was a good season..:smug:

Whew!!! I hope I didn’t forget anything. Trip to Arizona Music Pro tomorrow…

Good morning everyone. Tea is steaming. (and delicious)

I'm still not ionized particles wafting through the atmosphere. I haven't looked at the news yet, but I hear the TV droning as Pfeffernuss devours said news. I'm sure she'll shout out if something major has occured. At this point of the day, it's still "Schoedinger's War." I'm not looking forward to the morning dumpster dive into the dirty diapers of the world.

(You may have noticed I have a affinity for alliteration. Deal with it.)

@OtherLisa, I was seriously wondering why you posted a pic of Suzy Quatro. Then the caffeine started hitting my synapses, and my eyes focused somewhat better. 48 crash, 48 crash, 48 crash...

*record needle scratch*

I met the Queen of the Universe in San Francisco in 1986. I was a bike messenger. She was working a flower stand downtown that I passed by often. I was smitten. I wooed her by bringing her sticky buns from La Petite Boulangerie every morning. This worked well.

*sigh*

Life was good before the apocalypse.

Anyway, after I got deported the 2nd time, I decided I was "over it." (I'm not) I put an ad on a dating site (Plenty O' Fish), and waited.

I was almost immediately contacted by Omas from all over Germany. Omas are my age bracket these days.

I was shocked. Women were beating at my e-door to go out with me! It didn't hurt that I (allegedly) photograph well, and (allegedly) ooze sex appeal in said photos. I don't see it, but have been assured by many Omas that it is so. I think I look like a goof.

The ones I met seemed to find my accent charming. I've been told I have a Dutch accent, which kinda makes sense, as Dutch is kind of a mish mash of English and German, with a smattering of French. I grew up speaking English and German, and had spent a few years in Québec attempting Québecois, which is almost, but not quite, French. Je ne parle pas parapluie.

I almost got together with a nice Oma up Wilhelmshafen way, but she couldn't handle my having an occasional beer/Jäger, and was suspicious of my activities when not visiting with her. Her ex was an alky, and she has bad memories of drunk beatings. Nevertheless, we're still friends (w/benefits?), and she still writes me a wake up message almost every morning.

Anyway, Pfeffernuss answered my ad, we hit it off, and have been together ever since. We get along quite well. She doesn't smoke weed or drink, but has no issues with me doing so. She has foibles that I'm OK with. It's a comfortable relationship, we're each other's "fuzzy slippers". We're actually planning on getting married. More for financial security when one of us passes before the other than for romantic reasons.

Anyway... time to gird my loins and venture into the fray.

Stay fresh, cheese bags!

That’s so sweet!!!! All the Omas…… VK! I often ask myself, “How did THIS happen?!?” Then I just realize that I’m still a dumb kid trapped in the body of a broken-down “Alt Fürz!:woot:; and I thank God that I’m still here to reflect on this fine state of affairs we call life. :hyper::hyper:

Time to restock my larder..

Your haircut IS sexy-you found a nice set of slippers!! Keep on rocking. I think they may make a Mini P at AZ Music Pro- if so, I’ll give it a workout. :bassist::bassist:

I’m sorry to be be a downer this evening, but I’m feeling a bit defeated at the moment.

I just discovered that in addition to my VW needing its gearbox rebuilt, I have damaged the radiator core support. This will double the cost of the next service, which I already can’t afford. Even so, I feel bad for feeling sorry for myself, given the wider circumstances, and the fact that even with these extra repair costs, I've still got a nice car at a fraction of the cost it would have been to go and buy one with no problems.

I am now a biker with a project car.

Time to focus on working and playing bass.

My greatest happiness started out by chance. Well, and a friend who actually was good at matchmaking (sorry Winslow)
:roflmao:

Not to worry; My fortunes changed for the better when I met the lady who would be Mrs. Winslow. :hyper:

Have I mentioned lately how incredibly happy I am that I met Mrs. Winslow...?

The latter. Made me think fondly of a coworker who uses it when they are highly incredulous about something.
I kinda figured. :D

In addition to the exasperated use, in certain segments of my personal sphere, that pronunciation, typical of "spirit-led" preachers (i.e., no divinity school or secondary education necessary) is used to mock both said preachers, and the overly-religious types who take them at their word (or Word, as the case may be).

Oh good, the internet has done that 'chop already (a good many times, apparently).

@OtherLisa has better hair, though. Speaking of which...

Nah, at one point he was throwing lit matches at my hair.
See, when the offenses cross over from [bleep] talk to attempts at physical harm, that's when someone really, REALLY needs to be on the receiving end of "corrective action" from one or more members of the surrounding area. Or better yet, several of them. Furiously, rapidly, and utterly without mercy. :blackeye: :cautious:

It didn't hurt that I (allegedly) photograph well, and (allegedly) ooze sex appeal in said photos.
Now you're just daring me to post that one again aren't you? :roflmao:

I am now a biker with a project car.
Sympathetic "Like."

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. Unexpected repairs (and aren't they all?) suck. :greedy:

May the skies grant you good biking weather.

You DO get a number, if you want it. Your number is 1109, like everyone else except @El Diablo Rojo and me. The Red Devil is a free man, and this here Bear...well, the last time I let someone hang a number on me, they sent me to places with unpleasant climates where the local people were rude to me.
I've been mediocre so long I was given a number before 1109, but I too lame to remember it and too lazy to look it up. 1109 is fine

You mean the one where you re-gendered me? Go ahead; I think I make a sexy Oma.
Well, I realized when I looked through the folder there was also that one. :roflmao: But no, I was thinking of the one in which you are playing bass on the sofa in shorts - allegedly - and the Hoff made an appearance. :D

Being chastised for that one last time, I had mentally marked it as verboten. :blackeye:

;)
