The bass part is what makes it. We used to do this song in our band when I was married. I "wrote" the bass part I play, and one time I took the effort to learn the one from the recording, and the band got angry with me for not playing "my" bass part. So I realized I might have a wee bit of funk after all.

To those who wonder if I'm delusional, I realize I don't "nail" this song. But to be fair, the only person who ever nailed it was Art Garfunkel, and everybody else either oversings it, or just plain does it badly. I chose to do it badly. OK, that's a lie, that was probably chosen for me. I did the very best I could, singing it about 90 times to even get it as good as I did. It's not my style; it's ridiculously difficult to get right, and my dog ate my homework. Now that the excuses are out of the way, I present:

It's a song I hold very dear for some personal reasons, and I hate hearing it done badly.
Like you say, it's Art's song, and he was something special.
The only other singer I've heard do it justice was Elvis.

That said, I'm glad I did take a chance ... You've done a fine job, nothing to make excuses for at all.
