I've seen pics of those two basses before in the forum separately but only now realised you own them both. You've got great taste.

Yes. The build quality that I have seen has been top notch. Most people believe Japan's stuff is equal to American.

Oh yea, they sound good too.

what makes MIJ's so great?

For me, it's the fit and finish, the sound, the look, the feel, and the price. Some of the things I love about my new '62 RI J are the immaculate fretwork, the vintage tinting of the neck, and the US pickups. I dig the details like the grounding strip, headstock strap button, threaded bridge saddles, and just the overall vibe. Plus it's lightweight at 8.5 lbs. And at $660 shipped from Ishibashi, it's an incredible value.

here's my MIJ marcus miller jazz. This weekend we opened up for Porter, baptiste and stoltz (of the funky meters) at a three day camping festival on the oregon coast. They were definitely a tough act to open for. George Porter is one of my and probably some of yours, bigger influences. He's a hell of a nice guy too. We were gonna bust out a cissy strut, but decided it would be in poor taste , should probably leave that one to the man! Too bad I didn't get a picture with him too.

Not the greatest shot of the bass, but this is my 88 MIJ Jazz in action at a festival show with the acoustic/singer songwriter chick I back up on occasion. I've had this bass since it was new & it has been to hell & back with me. Countless cigarettes, beers, bumps, thrown across a stage, dropped...you name it. Put some Dimarzios in it a few years back. Fantastic bass.

A '75 reissue jazz is high up on my gas list. I love Fender Japan.

I was very surprised at how cheap I got mine for, and I have to say, that it gets ALL of my time. Even as new basses come home, I pick that up within 1/2 hour of noodling with the new gear. I adore the feel of it, and the sound's killa!
