Plugged in tonight and nothing. Okay-batteries! Changed out -Nothing. My set up at rehearsal tonight (and always): Bass-tuner-SA Bass Driver DI-1/4" to effects return on my SVT III to board/mains/monitors. The bass is 6 months old. I love it. But what the heck?? Could there have been some random "phantom power" issue that fried a pup or cap? Any help that can ease my mind for now? Will talk with Mike and/or my tech tomorrow. A side note- Thats a tight batt. compartment. What do you guys use to "gingerly" remove and replace batteries?

Ya, I thought about that one too. I talked with Brian and that one is a consignment one. I didn't know it was an alder body though.

First thing I'd do is check your entire signal chain to make sure it is the bass. You could have a bad instrument cable, a bad speaker cable or a problem with your amp... if you've already done that troubleshooting, sorry! Just trying to help.

Thanks Greg. I checked everything in line. Ended up using another bass through my set up w/ no problems. Came home and plugged the Lull straight into my practice rig and had the same results. Nada. Thanks again for the response.

With the bass unplugged, I'd look in the control cavity and visually search for a loose wire or for any wires/pins touching the cavity surface. That can ground/short circuit stuff. And definitely check the jack, make sure everything is connected well there and not shorting out unintentionally.

If you can't solve it that way, then I'd plug into an amp set on low volume and start poking around in the cavity and listen for pops and cracks. Pay attention to what you're touching when it crackles, and trace that to any related connection points. Look for shorts (like pins touching the sides of pots or the cavity itself), loose connections and cold solder joints. That can be nerve wracking if you're not comfortable with electronics, so you may want to skip that step and take it to a tech (or Mike himself). 6 months in, it should still be under warranty. I've yet to experience any warranty issues with Mike, but given his general outstanding level of customer service I'm sure he takes this sort of stuff quite seriously.

Traded my Roscoe for this Lull..I had a little traders remorse but that went away after I played it. No regrets, this thing is awesome.

Not a Lull owner, but I saw the most gorgeous Mike Lull last night at a show with J.P. Michaels playing with the band Vinyl Tattoo. It was a Thunderbird body trans red with white pearloid guard. Five string with matching 4+1 headstock. Maple board. I couldn't take my eyes off of it!

I just got my first Lull. A trans red beauty recently listed on ebay. Will post pics.

Anyhow, checking her over, i had the same battery compartment surprise. Wow. That is a tight fit. Any thoughts? I had to use a screwdriver to lever them out to test them.

Also, what truss rod tool is required? Thx....

I visited with Mike and Paul at the shop this past week, here's some of his Thunderbirds, Jeff Ament sig and standard models. As always everyone there is very friendly and accomodating.

After playing lots of "coffee table" basses, I was thinking it might be nice to go old school. My first bass decades ago was a Squire P bass and I haven't had another P since. Plus, one of my groups has a very dense mix and a P would be good for cutting thru.

After checking out many companies, I thought Lull was just about perfect combination of price vs quality. Thanks to the help of a few on this site, I had my sights set upon a P4. But I still wanted to talk to the man himself.

Talking to Mike, it was definite that I wanted a P4. I asked if he any in stock but he did not. Then he remembered taking a P4 to NAMM. It was actually in the Aguilar booth for most of the show demoing their products. A young woman (who was doing the demos with the bass) said she was a J bass lover but really got into the P4.

The specs on the bass are: alder body, rosewood fretboard, Fralin pickup, passive electronics, Lake Placid Blue body and matching headstock and mint pickguard.

This bass sounded just about perfect to me so I bought it. I should have it by the end of the week.

My only issue is the pickguard. Mint seems to be the standard for a LPB finish. Seeing that nearly every LPB instrument has a mint pickguard and I'm kind of a black pickguard person, the bass is coming with both a mint and black pickguard.

I'm actually pretty excited to get this bass. It's 180 degrees different from what I've been playing and I think it'll fit in perfect with on of my bands. Thanks to all who help with my Lull education.
