Some of you may have seen the photos of my JT4 Greg posted on the @RocketMusic sub-forum. The bass arrived on Friday and with the weather we had this past weekend, I had more than enough time to put it through its paces. I always wanted a Thunderbird in a jazz bass body and this one does not disappoint. Also wanted to add I had a very nice hour long conversation with Spencer last week while finalizing some of the specs. I firmly believe that not only will he carry on his father's legacy, but he will build one on his own merit. Spencer has the drive and passion and I would recommend any that has considered a Lull build to not hesitate on moving forward with it.

One week later, another NBD! I ordered a P4 from Greg at Rocket and got this lovely bass today! Ash body, birdseye maple board with some figuring, really nice woods on this one. J width neck, weighs 8lbs even.

I decided to see what my M5V would look like "naked" so I removed the black pick guard. Now I'm thinking that it might be nice to go with a clear guard. Does anyone have any sources for Lull-friendly pick guard replacements?
I sent Spencer an email yesterday so I'll see if he gets back to me. I also wrote to Pickguardian to ask for a quote.
You can certainly get the exact pick guard you need for your M5V from Mike Lull Guitars. Spencer will get back to you. My M5V came with a clear pick guard. When I first bought this bass, I considered getting a teal pearloid pick guard for it. But when the bass arrived and I saw it in person for the first time, I was really struck about how good the bass looked with its flamed top clearly visible through the clear pick guard. It was and is beautiful, if I say so myself....
I dig the look of that with with out the pick-guard, but it's funny, I need the pick-guards for slapping. I makes a difference somehow, I've tried mine with out pickguards and I always went back.
I prefer the pick guard for slapping as well. Closing the distance between the strings and the body (and the screw holes in the top) is the only reason I'm not going to leave the bass guard-less.
Agreed. It would be a shame to cover up that flame! Thank you! The color and the hardware was a big attraction (besides it's a, well, a Mike Lull...
). I've always liked gold hardware, but it does take a little extra care. I'm really hoping my next Lull will be a P5 with the Trans Red finish, clear pickguard, matching headstock, and black hardware. I'm throwing everything in my piggyback for that one as we speak...

That really is beautiful, Brad. Does the body have a transparent stain or is it just finished clear? Thinking about a future Lull, now that I am smitten.
Thanks, I agree! I think Spencer said they put a little tint into the clear finish to make the grain pop.
I have a question maybe someone with knowledge can answer. I am doing a set-up on my P4 for the first time. I adjusted the relief on the truss rod and was about to adjust string height at the bridge when I saw screws for which I have no idea what they do. In the photo, I highlighted these with the black arrows. The red arrows point to what look to be standard saddle adjustment screws. I assume these adjust the saddle height (but if I'm wrong about that, please let me know). The black arrows point to what look like some sort of headless or allen-head screw. Can someone tell me what these are and what they do? I don't want to just start adjusting things that I don't really understand. That usually doesn't work out to well for me. Anyway, I would appreciate some guidance.
