I got the one with the volume/pull for passive option. A toggle switch option is available. I think Spencer is installing the volume/pull version. Not sure if he's doing 2-band or 3-band, but it's easy to install any of the available configurations and I imagine Spencer will set it up however you wish.
The only thing with the IPA is that it's not a drop-in preamp. Which was fine with me, I'm experienced with installing electronics into basses. IPA will supply the EQ pots (2-band or 3-band w/ stacked treble/bass), the 1/4" output jack, and the active/passive toggle switch, if that's the preference. The buyer must supply the volume pot(s), balance pot, and a pot for a passive EQ, if desired (I mention that because passive treble controls seem to be the rage these days, but not to me….:D). But in talking to the IPA guys (which is really easy to do), they can supply the necessary pots for the user to wire in. They furnished me a volume/pull for passive pot already wired and a stacked balance pot already wired, both with pigtails and for a reasonable fee.

You won't have to worry about any of that if you have the IPA installed in your Lull build.

I'm having to drive nearly 3 hours to a guitar I know I can trust. His rates are great and I can make an appointment and wait on the work. My latest trip was to have a nut replaced on a Stingray Special that I managed to break the 3rd day I had the thing. And I took my M5V for him to check the nut slot width as well. (I use 50-135-gauge strings. That's how I broke the Stingray nut)

My local and most excellent guitar guy has ceased all guitar repair and is building very fine, very nice, and highly sought-after acoustic guitars. So while I'm happy for him, it's sending me a long way for guitar repair needs. Thankfully, I can do my own action adjustments (no fretwork) and electronics.

Did you grab that one off of ebay ? I was contemplating that one but couldnt really tell what the nut width was. looking at your pics I would guess a 1 1/2" jazz type. Had to pass on the mocha/maple at the bass shop as it was the wider C width, just not my thing.

Thanks Gary, there was one on ebay just like it for awhile then disappeared. If you have a chance would love to hear how one of these sounds and your impressions, I own 3 Lull's but no P bass version. Would love to order one from Spencer at Lull guitars to my specs.... someday maybe

It sounds exactly like it should. P bass goodness. Nothing more, nothing less. Especially once I get my favorite flats on it. It plays so much better than its grandparent FSOs. Light, snappy maple neck with perfect (for me) neck profile, gorgeous birdseye fingerboard, stripey ash. So aesthetically and functionally its way above a regular P bass.

My new M5V is on the way. It's nearly identical to my previous M5V. The only difference is the new one is 35" and has a Trickfish preamp. I mainly just wanted to move from a 34" scale to a 35" scale. I had to stick with the charcoal frost finish and tort pickguard.
