Just arrived (IMA4 Mary Kaye (batch #6)…
…have several Lull's on hand, but tone-wise…t-h-I-s bass blew me away—right out of the shipping box! Based on Spencer's demo vid, was n-o-t expecting it to sound sooo huge and fat! Seriously, just an exceptional axe!! P bass on steroids-tone available, and so so much more. : )

Very cool bass. I played a 60's non reverse T Bird for a bit a while back. I always loved the tone. I bet that bass sings.
Played my first gig yesterday with my new to me P5 and it killed. After owning so many fivers, the Lulls just bleed solid tone. I might have to give in and get a JJ5.
Thats a tough question, the P is straight no nonsense P with the P tone I hear in my head. The Double P is more mid focused that I can get a little bark out of with the bridge pup. I love them both.

Loaded my newest (JT5) Lull with a set of LaBella IMA SP's…sounds killer! This bass can get very aggressive in a hurry…really even across the fb. Chambered alder, roasted (quarter-sawn) neck, 1-3/4" nut, abalone dots, Porsche Pale Blue Metallic, 8.2 lbs.
That's an awesome color. And I love the neck on it, is that flamed birdseye?
Never played any type of Thunderbird pickup, other than once or twice at a GC. Are they much darker than a Jazz or P?
but Mike's T-pickups have a bit of sizzle to them as well. I think I owned four or five different basses with those pickups at one point or another. full range, if you ask me. and you didn't.
Really wish they would sell just the Lull t bird pickups again. I've asked Spencer a few times and still no plans.
I agree…ML's T version have a lot of sizzle, and full range. To me, they have a wider/larger/bolder presence, compared to ML JJ's (which I also really like)…
I'm finding the LaBella IMA SP strings are a particularly good match for their T-pickups, though this JT sounds quite different than my IMA4 (batch 6) posted earlier. JT5 tonal options are fantastic, but were not unexpected.
That IMA version is still the most unique sounding/versatile Lull I've ever owned. I had a previous single T-pickup Lull that (to my ear) didn't measure up. IMA4 (batch 6)…a bass where the collective specs seem to magically "work"…
Has Lull every done a 5 string at 34" scale with a narrower nut/string spacing? I'd probably have to grab one if I came across it.
For 5ers I'm a 1 3/4" nut and 17.5mm string spacing guy.

My M5 (older - late 90s) is 17.5mm. It's 1 7/8" at the nut and 35" though. I believe they do make 34" scale on request, but I am not sure about the narrower nut. Worth an ask if you are buying new.
If you can find a used TC5 for sale (now out of production) I believe it matches those specs!
Spencer does all my 5's with 1-3/4" nut, 34" scale, and 18mm (adjustable) A-bridges…I then widen the spacing, but you 'could' narrow the spacing slightly, if preferred?
Yeah I guess a custom order may be the ticket. Might require raiding the kids' college fund though!
