The story on that bass is, in 2018, I was mixing monitors for an orchestra show, which is very much auto-pilot once the show starts. I was guilty of glancing through my phone with one eye for a second....
...and that bass flashed up on my phone from the Reverb site. I bookmarked it very quickly and during intermission, I whipped out a card and bought the thing right then and there. I had a feeling just from looking at the pic and the description that it was gonna be a very special bass. I wasn't wrong then and bas(s)ed on my string change an hour ago, I'm still very much right! It's my heart & soul forever bass. I play other basses here and there and I just bought a Fender AM Pro II Precision 5 that's a quite decent bass.
But the Lull stays front and center all the time. Even through a few pickup and preamp changes, it still holds my favorite place. (The current Lindy Fralins and Trickfish J Core are here to stay, hopefully.....
)
I've listed my IMA4 from batch #2 for sale. If anyone is interested let me know. It's a rad bass, would love it to go to a good home.
Hey Everyone: Long time Mike Lull appreciator but never owner here. I am working to sell a bass and one proposed deal (which I'd like to do, because my counterpart is awesome and local) would entail me taking this MV4 back. It's a 2022 and less than 8lbs. Very dark blue, Birdseye board, blocks. I think the build was about $6k new.
Thing is.. I have a bunch of back issues and am moving to short scale only. So, I'd be acquiring this specifically for resale. I checked with the current owner and asked permission to post this, but I'm curious if anyone would be interested in such a bass if it soon becomes available. Let me know if so - thanks!

Even if no interest, would anyone be willing to PM me a range of the value they think this might fetch on TB? It seems like Lull basses have changed a bit in value over the years. Seller knows I am planning to sell it if I take it back in the trade and I would share my answers with him (I don't need to make money from it's trade value when coming to me, I just want to break even on the trade value we set it at in our transaction).

Couple points: this is an inappropriate place to do this imho. The market speaks, so look at what else is out there, what has sold, and figure it out
Next, obviously the owner wants more from you than he can get on the market or else he would sell it. So your confusion stems from trying to do something that's impossible. You want to take in a bass for more than market price and then sell it without taking any risk. I'd suggest not buying a bass to flip if these points are difficult to grasp and you're super worried about a few hundred bucks of risk
I don't have a strong opinion about whether it's appropriate to ask about market value for basses in the club threads. I see it all the time, maybe it's annoying to some or clogs up the owner's threads. Mods can speak to that.
To your other point I'll raise my hand and say I'm the owner of that Lull. A cool medium scale 5 string came up, and it's local, so I offered up my Lull as a potential trade. Agreed the market will speak, I think my floated trade value was very fair. I'm not in a hurry and haven't thought about listing my Lull for sale, but I play 5 strings and specifically medium scales more (I've been trying to get Spencer to build a 32" 5 string for a while). If the trade doesn't work out it doesn't work, but I've been on TB for 20 years and not trying to take advantage of anyone. I sell and trade a LOT of basses locally and on TB and have a decent feel for the market.
I didn't mean it in terms of you trying to take advantage -- just that he's trying to get a risk free price to instantly turn it into $. You being on the board here makes it even more obvious that you could also turn it into $ at that price. If you're offended by anyone, it should be him for not trusting that you're offering it at a fair price (also not what I would suggest, but just saying). Whatever it is, that's anyone's guess -- we all have the same info. Otherwise it's just an auction. The way to find the price is to list it in the classifieds, not chat about it here. Talk is cheap. Take a good guess, do the trade, list it up! Or don't
Steve: A lot of assumptions man. I can appreciate your perspective but it's really not all that serious. I am not looking to take zero risk, that's absurd. Nor am I confused in the slightest. I'm simply doing my homework with the resources available. This stuff happens all the time in other groups but if it's not your cup of tea it's really not that important. I've been buying and selling gear on here for close to 15 years.
No one is trying to take advantage of anyone. Just someone new to the brand getting my bearings and make informed choices. BGroovy has been the man so far and it seems like he is quoting an extremely fair trade value. But I really don't like flipping gear - for less or more money - so I'm going to at least try to get the buy/sell values to be in the same ballpark. If I know I'm going to turn around and sells something I'm just as conscious of not wanting the initial seller to get a bad shake either.
Making a buck is way less priority than speed of the resale here. And, I wouldn't even be that comfortable making a buck at all here - I would actually consider refunding BGroovy a portion if that were to happen to "true up" his set trade value. All the transactions are motivated by pretty extreme health expenses. For that reason, I'm actually planning to price the Lull for a super quick sale if we do the deal. So, actually the only thing cheaper than "talk" will be this deal on a Lull I'll be listing known full well I won't recover my full price (if the deal goes through). Again, nice try on the assumptions though. You weren't close at all, but I respect you making your preferences known. Not everyone shares them and no one is offended - we can all just relax.

I'm just saying there's no way to answer your question. There are comps on reverb from 2400-4000. I probably bought the last used M4V to change hands, and it was the cheapest on the market 2 weeks ago. Everything is a bit slow now. If you sell it for $1800 I'll buy it today and have a second one. If you sell it for 2k, I bet someone else on here will still buy it quickly. If I tell you it's worth $4k I still may be right and if someone is looking for that exact spec you could sell it tomorrow or wait for a year. Won't comment again, best of luck to both of you

Steve. My man. don't think you're being any specific word - I'm not that sensitive. But, I don't particularly get the sense you're reading closely before responding. Still, I value your data points. Because in trying to tell me there aren't answers you very much did answer - corroborating a few thresholds I was considering in my evaluation. Don't be surprised if you see "quickly" prices appearing in the classifieds. Heck, I'll even give you credit here and now if the prices look familiar : ).

Pretty sure I have the sister to your bass, mine was made by Mike himself for the 2015 NAMM show; bet at one time mine was hanging right next to yours, out of curiosity is your serial number 2893 or 2895?Got my new-to-me M4V a few days ago and have made some cool discoveries. This one has been well played, toured with for years and lived a whole life. First thing I noticed was how incredible the smaller body size feels and shockingly light it is! Plays like a dream, sounds absolutely fantastic.

It has a small crack in the body up by the neck, so I took the neck off to make sure everything was structurally sound (I think all ok). The bass is a very cool teal green, so I figured it was some sort of trans green. But in the neck it is marked as trans blue.Did it fade to this color? Only one way to find out. It's making me stare at MIJ 51P reissue in my rack. Might need to be routed for a TBird. Wish you could still order Lull TBird pickups. Might have to try a Lollar in it.
I'm a big fan of Mary Kay with a maple board, would love to get one of those.
I checked behind the couch cushions and didn't find a spare $3K or so. Dang. I don't have a P-style bass, and this one is exactly what I'd spec if I wanted a new Mike Lull built for me. Classic looks - 3-tone sunburst & tort - wide at the nut and Fralin passive pickups. And it's within a reasonable drive for me.
Someone here might be interested, or maybe just enjoy looking at the pretty pictures.
