My P4 is trans black with matching headstock and I absolutely love it - so beautifully done. Mike even added an ash veneer for me on the headstock so that the grain would match with the translucency.


At first I thought it was a little too dark...but on stage under big lights, the grain really comes out.

got my Lull with the J body/pickups and the P neck (from Rocket Music) a few weeks ago, meant for one particular band I play with. I had played it by myself, and thought very nice, but today got together with that band for the first time, and it was more like, wow! What a great sound in the mix. And it's a very ergonomic bass, both light and so easy to play.

Time to start saving up for my Lull PJ5 for my main band!

I have never actually used the Dunlops before. I am sure they're fine, I just have too many straps with the Schaller locks now that it doesn't make sense to have one bass with a different type now.

I know they are doing my next one with Schallers and I'm in the same boat. Its probably not the best system...LOL but its the one I'm used to and have on all my straps.

Schallers and Dunlops are both good in their own right. If you're vested in one system over the other there is certainly no reason to change. Most of my basses have Dunlop but I do have Schaller on a couple...the only difference it that it's a pain to remember to grab a different strap than my usual :)

Thank you, sir. To be honest, I was never a P kind of guy either. I went to the local shop to play a V4 or UV4, but they only had M5Vs. So I grabbed a surf green P4 they had there, just to try one of Lull's 4-string passive basses (since that's what I was interested in)...and I couldn't put it down.

Even though I was really looking for a good passive J, I just had to order myself one of his P basses. I think there are a lot of people out there that seem to focus on and make really nice J's, but I've never come across a P that felt or sounded half as good as Mike's.

Typically, the neck pickup 100% and the bridge pickup 50%. For thumpier old school stuff I rolled off the bridge pickup more and it sounded good, no real loss in overall gain. I also experimented with going strongly bridge and going treble on the tone control, and got good slap sound. But that's not my style and definitely not that band's style.

I'm a Lakland fan too, btw.
