If you ve ever tried a t4 then you have an idea of the tone. This particular bass is alder which I think adds even more lows, maple neck for more snap and punch and rose wood fingerboard keeping things from getting too zingy. To my ears it's got the same bounce and bloom as my alder p4 but with more low mids if that's possible and a different top end... Lestrebble and it reacts strongly to differently cables ,leading me to think the pickup are rather high impedance. I'll post sound clips soon. When compared to a mahogany T4 it seemed to have more output as well for some reason.

I just put Big Singles in my original M5V and its matched with a Nordstrand 2 band with a passive roll off (nice for mellow material and that over the top zing with new stainless strings).

I'm loving it.

The 35" scale on my Lull P5 is a challenge for me.
However the 35" scale on my Lull PJ5 24 is much easier to play... The first 35" that is very comfortable for me to play....very different than the P perhaps due to the J style neck vs the wider P neck
Both sound incredible.... The PJ had a Sadowsky preamp in it when I purchased it so it has a different tone to it....the low B on the PJ is very very good but the low B on the P is the very best that I have played...
Now Gassing for a Lull 5 string Jazz!

I have, and to me there a distinct difference...I prefer the 35s but a lot of the guys if not must prefer the 34s.
On that note though, part of the reason I prefer it is due to my technique which is on the slightly heavy handed side. I just don't prefer but actually NEED that 35" B on J style bass.
For whatever its worth I know Mike prefers the 35s as well for 5s...but we are all different players.

While I don't have any extensive experience with Lull 35" scale 5-string basses (I have briefly tried a couple), I generally prefer the feel and comfort of 34" scale basses over 35". Part of it is the extra stretch, longer reach and the effect of the extra length on the treble strings (especially the G-string). You gain B-string clarity while the G-string can sound tinny on 35's.

I picked up a 34" scale M5V and was pleasantly surprised at how good the B-string sounded. Each model and each bass can vary, but mine is really solid and plays really well. I am sure the 35" ones are great too.

Gigged my TC4 on a outdoor gig yesterday with FOH support and she was sweet. I think I really dig it with the pups in HB mode and the front pup favored ever so slightly and the bass and treble bumped just a tad. I hope to get some pictures of the gig soon and will post my own pics of the bass finally.

I thought I would share this info.
Did some A/B-ing yesterday on 2 Lulls that are really almost (not quite) specked the same way except for the preamps Nordstrand and Bartolini.

The only difference is one had figure maple top. (The Bartiloni bass has the figured top)
Same strings, woods, hardware, scale, pickups and placement, ect...
A/B was initially done with pres sent flat and then gradually tweaked.

I like both pres and they do have one big thing in common. Both are very subtle and not have that Aggie or Sadowsky sudden boost. I like subtle pres they are more useful to me and much more musical.

Bottom Line
Nordstrand - A little move open so to speak, very natural with a vintage vibe to it.
Bartolini - A bit tighter sounding, with more modern vibe to it

I wouldn't say that the preamps are polar opposites and drastically different from each other, because they are not.
However there is a difference you can play 3 notes and can hear it.
