Ya, I've been checking that one out for a while... But I decided recently that 5's are what fit my needs, 4's are fun but I just feel more comfortable going into an audition/rehearsal/gig with a 5.

Plus, I think this one is a bit pricey... Compared to how much you find Lulls here on TB - and how there were 2 (M5V & PJ5) from the same seller recently that were $1600 and $1500, respectively.

Yeah, it's typical of a lot of active basses with a pickguard. All the guts are under those, but to avoid the hassle of having to remove those screws and deal with wires and whatnot every time you have to change the battery, he puts a flip out battery holder on the back.

Ever seen a Lull with that configuration though - I mean a preamp that is only accessible from under the pickguard?

First time I'm seeing one.

In my short time of experience with Lulls I've seen a bunch of different configurations... It's as though you can see the progression of how Mike likes to do things.

Roger told me they've done away with the flip-out battery compartment because of the problem I called him about - basically, out of my 8-pack of new Duracell 9-volts only one works for my bass... The others don't quite fit and therefore the terminals do not make contact... How is it on the newer ones? BC, Ron, anyone else with a newer Lull... Mine is an '02.

And I'm with you CaptainWally... Backup = I want 2!

Yeah, my 2008 does not have the flip battery compartment. Its a quick release like most basses.

Yeah, I would like to try an active J bass, Ash Maple with standard jazz config. Drool....

I GAS'd out and bought that natural M4V @ BassNW. I have a long history with BassNW, and they are always fun to deal with.

One piece ash body, 7.8 lbs, 18V pre, Plekked... *sigh* it had me at hello.

Should be here by Tue... :hyper:

Wow, congrats Cap! That is beautiful! I've said it many times, that is still my fav look on a J - give or take the black blocks and binding.

Please do share more when you get it... I'm sure we're all curious.

Well, as per a few requests, I should be recording my bass this week. Hopefully it goes well. If anyone wants clips let me know.

Well, I installed an Audere preamp in my Modern 5 and took the Sadowsky preamp out. Big difference!

Besides being a 2-band, the Sadowsky had monsterous boost on it - really more than I needed. Pretty aggressive.
The Audere has a vol/vol/4-band EQ w/ the z-mode switch. It's more tame but still a jazz bass; but what tonal variations I can now do! It creates a whole tonal palate that was not there before.

So I lost some "boom" but gained a lot of "blossom" if that makes sense.

Thanks YC - it's got a slightly more tame character but it does many more voices and tones than it used to. I'm REALLY diggin' it.

Very nice catches on those ebay threads. I'm really not a PJ kind of guy. I left that setup long ago when I cut my heavymetal hair off.:D

I"m sure someone will love these though.

I received the M4V from BassNW today.

Man, it's just a GOOD jazz bass. Plays and sounds great. Nice and light. Crispy and snappy, but plenty mellow if you roll off the highs. The downsized body is a must for me. Very comfy. The neck is just creamy dreamy goodness. The Plek thing isn't obvious compared to my non-Plek'd Lull, but this new one sure plays nice. Great set up, and certainly no issues with the frets. I like how this new one is vol/pan instead of vol/vol. I also have a small pull knob which, when pulled, puts the bass in passive mode and allows for vintage tone control. Also have a 2 band Bart for active.

Came with the G&G tolex case, which is a little less awkward than the funky Lull trapazoid hard/soft case from the past.

The M4V seems like a good value - I paid about what one would for a Sadowsky Metro, which is also a good value and a great bass. The M4V is just very much my cup of tea.

Any nits? Hmmm, well the fretboard is a little light on the birdseye I guess. Also, the natural color is exactly what I wanted, but I guess it's not all that "exciting." It's just a very classic looking J that sounds and plays really, really well.

Pretty sure this is a keeper, but I'll sleep on it.

If I do keep it, there MAY be a killer prewoned sunburst/maple/tort Lull FS soon that's *almost* as cool as this one ;)

You sure know how to entice a bunch of ol' bass players - both with your new bass, and with the possibility of the sunburst bass you mention.

Glad you're enjoying the new baby. Your nits are pretty darn insignificant. I would strongly consider keeping it. A REALLY GOOD bass is hard to find.
