Yeah, it's nice for bragging rights, but it's bulky for the actual gig. Does Mike have a line of gig bags?
I have a Pro Tec gig bag for my Skjold and it's the best bag I've ever owned!
Yeah, I've heard great things about the Pro Tec. Yup, I forget who makes Lull's stuff but it is on his website.
I actually was about to buy a Pro Tec from Vic but I loved his incase stuff more, so when one popped up on TB for cheap, I bought it.
I have both the Pro-Tech bag and a tweed hardshell case. I bought the tweed hardshell case after I spaced off zipping up my Pro-Tech bag after a gig. On my way out to my truck, my M5V dumped out onto the parking lot! 
Completely my fault, but while my bass was being refinished, I decided a hardshell case would be better for me. YMMV.

YMMV.My Mike Lull came with a ProTec bag silkscreened with the Mike Lull logo (er, text...). The bag self destructed in nothing flat. It ripped along one of the seams, and the outside pocket ripped as well. I didn't overload it or do anything that would have caused it to rip. May have been a bad batch of nylon, I don't know.
So, can't recommend the ProTec.
I have a Protection Racket gig bag on order. These guys are known for soft drum cases, and they're uber-well made. The gig bags are new - we'll see.

Seriously tho, I just got another brand of bass in a privately labeled ProTec Contego and while I'm happy enough with my incase stuff I haven't used it much, I'd like to know if more folks are having any ProTec issues, and if it's current or older info. In other words, could it be limited to an older model or (as someone suggested) possibly a specific bad batch? I've always thought their stuff was really nice.
I have a couple of their regular "deluxe" heavy padded gig bags and have used those many times with no problems, and they seem pretty nice as well. That's the one Zon ships in by default.
The Roadrunner Cruizer bags at GC are pretty good... specially for the price - I overloaded mine (1 Crybaby, 2 Boss pedals, cables, surge protecter, spare set of strings, and something else) and the backpack ripped off - totally my fault - but I was able to exchange it for a new one even after using it for 6 or so months!
But since I ended up getting the iGig I have no use for the Roadrunner - I haven't even put a bass in the new one yet. I'll be posting that here soon!

Since my stupid accident
I've been extra careful to recheck my hardshell case's latches before I leave a gig . I don't have any durability complaints with my Pro-Tech case to report. My Roscoe has a case similar to my Pro-Tech; one of it's bottom feet snapped off within the first few months.

That's reaching...And you're absolutely right about hanging onto a really GOOD bass. This one isn't going anywhere. No sirree, Bob!
I'll have to get back to you on the sunburst M4V. It's too nice a bass to sit in a closet, which is where I suspect it's going to be way too much in the coming weeks. Don't want to be capricious in selling it though. Will consider at least a week or so.

I almost bid on the fretless PJ5 on eBay (from one of my previous posts) yesterday, it sold for about $1360 shipped - 1 bid only - exactly the price I was hoping for, oh well my time will come.
Question: for guys like JRB who have both an M5V (w/ pickguard) and an M5 (w/o pickguard)... Is the space between the body and strings by the neck (the slap/pop area) on the M5 as big as an M5V when you remove the pickguard? For my technique I'm used to having the pickguard there to reduce that space so that my finger doesn't get in too deep and get caught on the string... This is why I ask.

Meanwhile, I just LOVE this new natural M4V. Best bass I've ever owned. Love it....love it....love it.

I've GAS'ed for this bass AND the black MV5 at Atlanta Bass Gallery for months...maybe YEARS!
Hi YCBass I am not sure. I am out of town for weekend but can measure it when I get home. What I can tell you is slapping on the two basses is very different. Because of the 24 fret neck, your arm is farther back. I find the M5V easier to slap on, but not because of the distance between strings and body (I don't really notice much of an issue with what. The M5 is still very comfortable for everything but double thumbing because of the small space between the neck and the pickup (which I don't really every do outside of my house so that is not a big deal for me.) I well let you know about the distance when I get a chance.
