If I remember correctly, your P5 was one of the first basses to get the PLEK treatment and was the first Lull that came through my shop that had received the treatment. It sounds like you're still diggin' your P5. Just don't let our buddy Vic borrow it for too long, or you may never see it again! :D

Yup, you are correct. It was one of the first pleked. I can get the action nice and low and typical of Mike, the fret work is outstanding.

So yeah, I'm still loving it, lol. Vic actually has borrowed it. Seemed to really dig it.

So again, thanks Jay, this bass is amazing, my #1 bass and it is still getting complimented on how good it sounds. :)

Actually, as B.C. says, I've already borrowed it. :)

Also, I've known about the PLEK process for quite some time. There was a shop in TN that was one of the first to have the machine, and I seriously considered sending a couple basses down there to get them done.

+1 on this. I went through a long Roscoe/Bart phase but I have really burnt out on that tone. Keith Roscoe makes a great bass, but my tastes have really changed...and with electronics offerings available out there now, I have moved on.



Jay, you should DEFINITELY give us a PLEK thread. I know theoretically what it does for the bass but I don't know how that would translate to my hands....so I will sit here on the fence until I try one.:smug:

My long-standing #1 (4-string that Mike built for me about 7 years ago, which is also the bass that prompted me to become a Lull dealer). The other bass is Nordy Jazz #1, which is a vJ4 inspired by the other bass (as well as the bass that Larry Graham played at Woodstock). Once these two are done, I'll probably forward my '62 Jazz RI that I got about 15 years ago. MAN, I can't believe that bass is that old!

Looks like I'll have to start that PLEK thread at some point tonight! :smug:

I won't come as news to Jay, but FWIW to others, in particular, Mike Lull is KNOWN for his impeccable fret levels. I mean impeccable. I sent two basses to him once, one was pretty high end, and they came back night/day better. They were pretty good before, but they were dead perfect when I got them back.

I say that do say this; Noting Mike's demanding standards for quality on this topic, you KNOW the PLEK machine would have to at least meet, if not exceed those standards or he wouldn't use the machine and risk compromising this strong reputation.

That should lend some weight/impact to things. :)

Roger quoted me the $250 a couple months ago maybe, but if he missed something and it's really $125 if you own a Lull then I'm all for it... But I kinda wanna wait till I am in the Seattle area, I've never been there first of all, second I would love to visit the shop, third I'll save shipping and not have to take a risk shipping my dear bass.

I'll be up there sooner or later...

I'm curious to know.. What string you guys put on your 5 string Lull?

I tried D'Addario XL, Prosteel and DR Lo-rider SS..but I can't get the sound from the set of string that come wiht my brand new Lull when the bass came in...especially the B and E...is the string matter?...

I use DR Nickel Lo-Riders w/ a .130 low B... Love 'em! But I think I will try a .125 next time, to see if I can get a little bit more clarity from a slightly smaller string.

I am fairly certain that your brand new bass came with Mike Lull strings - you can get them on his website/online store.

And yes, IMO the type of string matters to your sound - I don't have the most detailed ear in terms of fundamentals and frequencies but I notice the difference between Nickel and SS - and they feel different too.

DR's are my choice for my Lull. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the strings Mike Lull makes are made by DR right?
