Isn't H just an octave up A? O would be 2 octaves up, V is 3?

traditionally German composers used 6 notes: C, D, E, F, G, A
then would use B for what we now call Bb and H for the 7th note in the scale, aka B.
So by this standard, old German ADHC could be ADBC in today's math?

H is A, not B, in the discussion you asked about..
I tune my basses down a whole step - ADGC instead of BEAD. I mistyped ADGC as ADHC. Someone joked, turning ADHC into ADHD. I responded with no, ADAC because in our standard octave, going up from G is H - or A if repeating. @nickpc riffed off that with where other letters fall when we keep mapping our 7 notes up through the slphabet.
Now wait a minute. I though ADAC was the German Automobile Club he he
Back on to BEAD. Anyone tried Magma tapes as I’m trying out at moment in BEAD?

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ - so with a 4 octave 4 note neck (a 5-string with 19 frets tuned in fourths) tuned down to A I could play the whole alphabet!
SOooo ... you DO have a BEAD bass?!?

Did it a few times in the past, not sure what I didn't like about it. I can't even remember what basses I tried it on. Did 5 string on and off for even longer. I was in the middle of another 5 string 'crisis' i.e. not vibing w/ it then recalled the BEAD method. Made the Kramer a few pages back and just did this Aslin Dane Stingray copy. Still needs one more tweak, but I like it enough to keep it so I'm selling the Kramer. And a '66 Mustang bass if anybody's interested!
Has anyone tried LaBella Low Tension Flats for a BEAD setup?
I play mostly CCM stuff nowadays and have noticed that most players seem to mostly use the B, E, and A strings on a five string, or the E and A strings on a four string. I have seen the D string used some, but never the G string. To me, if the genre calls for the lower strings, then BEAD makes the most sense.
Since I very much like the LaBella LTF strings, I wonder how they would work on a 73/74 J-bass. Any thoughts?

I play a ton of CCM music at our church, on both a BEAD P bass and Jazz 5.
I use the D on the BEAD and, when playing the 5, I find I use the G for a lot of 3rds and 5ths (especially when in C). So, that's how I've landed.
I have only used LaBella LTFs a bit...they didn't feel very comfortable. I have EB Cobalt flats on the P and TI Jazz flats on my J Bass. I'm thrilled with the TI flats on the J. The P is a little "meh" still... not sure just why, though.
I didn't really answer your question about strings, but have thought a lot about how best to fit into a CCM mix.

I have yet to wish I had a 5 string. The songs I need the low B on don’t need the G and vice versa. I mainly play the standard 4 strings (tuned down a whole step) but swap the BEAD in and out when I need the lower notes for a specific song.
It turns out just detuning to D covers a lot of the songs we do in our singers’ keys.
Well I went through this entire thread. The last time I ordered a set of Lebella flats I got the set of five, even though I only used the four. Decided I would try BEAD on my MIM Pbass. Filed the nut, made sure the string wasn't twisted, made sure the string was far enough away from the pickup. Had high hopes. But it just doesn't sound right? I guess some basses just aren't made for this? Not sure if I should try some different strings, or maybe a different bass? I really want this to work.
