The Most Pointless Combo Refinish Ever

So the other day, I was looking at my seldom used practice amp. It's a Rogue MG20B I've had for years, that I got just to practice at the house in college. One late, inebriated night, probably 10 years ago, my friends and I decided it was boring, so we ripped all the vinyl off, took off the badge, and spray painted it orange.

And so it has remained. But I found myself at a retail crafts store the other day and happened upon this great vinyl. It was cheap and gave me the idea to restore this little combo.

I measured my way around the box, picked out a good paisley for the grill, and got to work. I hit a few snags (glue that didn't work, stapler that didn't work, etc) but got it done in just 24 hours!

Here's the box after the vinyl was done. I glued the vinyl as best I could and then stapled the edges. Not the best staple job, but it'll hold!

No progress pics of the grill, but after attempting to glue it, I ended up just stapling all the way around and trimming the excess. Then final assembly! The vinyl made it a very tight fit, and led to some scratches and a lot of frustration, but it finally came together!

And for the final touch, a handle out of some excess vinyl.

Overall, a waste of about $30, but hey, it looks great! Maybe one day I'll drop a nice speaker in it...any suggestions?

Looks cool! I would try something different with the control panel. Like paint over it and come up with some silly words for the eq names.
Like "twang" for treble and "bollocks" for bass etc....

I actually love this idea. I may not paint it unless I just spray it gold, because the gold works so well with the grill cloth colors. But I've gotta say, with all the vinyl, the control housing is a pain in the neck to get out! I also may need some help with the handwriting. Maybe the girlfriend...

It's an 8" 4ohm. I've been looking for some replacements on eBay and here, but don't really know what to look for. I've seen some decent prices on Eminence, and some super high prices on Beyma. But I feel like these are car stereo speakers, not bass cab. Maybe they're the same, I'm not very informed on electronics.

Or you could get a label maker. I have one that has a nice 3/8" wide black label that you can print a nice looking gold leaf type lettering on it.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty pleased considering it's the first thing I've ever covered!

Here's a closeup of the grill.

Its scheme of black/gold/brownish purple happened to work out great! And funny story, I actually bought it from the remnants section, and I bought it based on the back!

Couldn't believe how perfect the front was considering I'd never seen it!

I've seen that vinyl on some amps before and it looks very cool. The cloth raises it up two notches, though.

If you can swap for a decent 8 ohm speaker and add a speaker output...
Then you've got the perfect opportunity to make a matching cabinet.
