Still cranking out original material every two years or so for 30 years. Ex-members of Suicidal Tendencies, Circle Jerks, and Minor threat in the band. One of the best live shows I've ever seen (7 times), and Greg Graffin and Mr. Brett are the McCartney/Lennon of my generation.

+5,000 BR may not be the most technical band, but Greg's lyrics are Grade-A and I love Brett's guitar work. And Jay Bentley is a really solid bassist.

Yep, this can go anywhere. After talking this out with a few buddies today, I'd say the most collectively talented group in it today is Tool. From Carey's Moon-like beats, Maynard's lyrics, Chancellor's grooves, and Adam's swank riffs, I can't think of a more talented group of musicians.

If your just talking straight talent, I think the answer has to be either Dream Theater or Rush. Clearly rush is not at the peak of their powers these days, but in my mind these two bands are the definition of chops and ability on their respective instruments. A lot of people can't stand prog rock, but the musicianship is far and away the most impressive in the domain of "rock music".

Dan and Dave have only gotten better as time goes on, and as much as sad as the loss of Karl was, Tommy Stinson is a riot to watch play

They took a huge step up getting Michael Bland to Drum (when he's not skinning for the Jonas Brothers).

This may be off topic slightly.. Willie Nelson never seems to amaze me -- taking into account all the hits he's written.. zillions of records.. he's still taking lessons and playing out 200 nights a year... last time I saw him there was Django Reinhart on the set list.

Not many bands can do 50 years of active business.
