johnk_10, have you ever owned/tried the first Mu-Tron Phasor? There are some who swear it's deeper and better than the Phasor II. Have you had experience with both?

Whoever else is reading this post, feel free to give your opinion if you've tried both the Mu-Tron Phasor and Phasor II.

I have never owned a Phasor II but I was lucky enough to have a bandmate that had one. He also had a Bi-Phase and the sound of the Phasor II really is identical to 1/2 of the biphase. We spent some time comparing the two and they are quite different. I love the sound of the Phasor I but it is clearly less flexible than the II. On the one, you have two controls - a three way switch for depth and then speed while on the Phasor II the depth knob is a full function knob with much more flexibility and then you have a Feedback knob.

I think the II gets so much more press because of the relation to the BiPhase. The I is a great phaser - lush, deep, seriously psychedelic. I hope to own both one day soon. If I had to choose, I would choose the II because it has that classic BiPhase sound that is on so many killer recordings. But the I is an amazing machine.

'Sup Adi?!? That's a great question. To me for the Bootsy Collins space wah sound, or the Stevie Wonder clav sound, the Larry Coryell sound, George Duke, Garcia, etc sound - say the classic auto wah, envelope filter sound, the MuTron is king. It is more lush, more quacky, more funky, more everything. When you click it on you immediately get that sound. And man it makes EVERYONE smile.

The Moog can pull off a VERY convincing copy (if you want it to) but it is decidedly different. Around here I have a Moog on my board because the MuTron is a pain to power when all you have is 220 volts and all it takes is 110. I did find that power cable on Richard Lingenberg's site that allows the earlier ones to be powered from a standard power supply so I have to get one. I would love to have the Mu with me at all times.

The Moog also has a ton of other tricks up its sleeve that the MuTron just doesn't. You can create some truly amazing synth sounds from the Moog by turning up the feedback knob and messing around with the frequency cutoff. And I mean some seriously crazy crap. There is just more flexibility in the Moog. I have had the Moog for about 2 years only and I still continuously find new things that it can do. Like all Moog pedals, the first time you turn them on you can get a killer sound. But the longer you have them, the more they can do.

But for that CLASSIC Mu-Tron sound, nothing and I mean NOTHING touches the Mutron. Which is clearly why you have so many different options to cop that sound from the original, to the TruTron to the q-Tron etc.

all good bro, just bought the wamp comp and returned the other 2..
yeah the moog is quite a box.. i love the dubby stuf it can do, the filter stuff and i actually made a synth out of my pedals.. the moog becomes a mono synth when the resonance is pumped.. then i pass a drive pedal into the moog and that makes the single note harmonise.. then through the tc flashback for loops and finally the emp trem as an arpeggiator (giving the short version :))

Holy crap! Talk about an AWESOME way to use to the Moog. And you see the Mutron can't do any of that.

I only wish there was a SUPER-like button for that madness. Or that you were closer than Bombay to hear how that bad boy sounds! If you have any clips I would be seriously curious!!!

Someday bro , someday!

My new place really is paradise. It's been years since I could hook up the big rig in the house and have a proper music room. Now I just need to buy a drumkit and then the madness can really begin. My last purchase was a PA system and a board so that we can fully practice down there. But I hate that my drummer always has to lug his crap around.

(edit) chk out the ludwig drumkits.. they're my favourite. i have recorded them for my friend who has a beautiful kit with great results.. the ludwig steel snares really sing

I only wish my playing was up to par with the rig. Seriously.... I think I need to join the "Crappy Bassist with Expensive Gear" club.....

But yes it's totally fricking amazing to have a place to play whenever we want. And I really don't have neighbors up here on the Mont Blanc.

Sure. I know I can remember seeing it and thinking "man that sure does look cool". I asked the fellow what's that and once he plugged it in it was over. This guy still has his shop and has always put hefty price tags on things but once I heard it I was buying.

And worth every penny. Just look on ebay for they are going for now. I would highly recommend sending to Richard for calibration. No affiliation but that dude is a Jedi master.
