The samples sound good, but I would say you have a very distinct attack. Did you have any issues getting the pedal to trigger? The early reviews over on The Gear Page have been mixed, at best.
Actually no, and that was indeed one of my problems with the Proton. So far with the Microtron, it seems that, regardless of attack or signal level, I've been able to dial in a subtle or not-so-subtle burp with the peak and gain knobs. E.g., copped a great TLC Waterfalls, with a lighter touch and a less extreme peak setting.
It is of course sensitive to input level, so I did find myself turning those knobs quite a bit. Thus, for me at least it's unlikely to be a set-and-forget pedal, especially if you wanna switch between dry, fuzz, octave, etc. But having only two knobs necessary to dial in made tweaking pretty easy.
