The MXR Blue Box Alliance and Question Thread!

Yeah... only pedal I ever killed. Smoke came out of it.

There I was, rocking out - foot on my monitor (washing basket), horns in the air (ignoring my mom), singing to thousands of screaming fans (grandma), pulling hella-sick guitar stances (in the bathroom mirror), soloing like Jimi (Jimmy Vegas), smoke starts coming from between my legs and I think that I've been possessed by the spirit of Eddie Van Halen and his dry ice machine.

Sadly, not - my blue box is making smoke :(. I don't think it could handle my rock-god-fury.

Hey! I nearly missed that thread!

I have one! So put me on that f***ing alliance list :)

Here are some clips, I posted a while back.
they are not the best and it's just the blue box alone.

1. no octave, just the straight Fuzz tone.

2. Blend at about 2 o'clock

3. maximum octave amount

I should post some, where I use it with other pedals.

I used it with a Digitech Grunge to kinda copy the Buzz Box's sound and that's where it shines.
To all who haven't tried: TRY running another distortion pedals after the Blue Box. Turn up the treble or the tone control on that distortion to bring back high end to the sound. It sounds killer.

The DOD BUZZ BOX is in the post for this week. I can't wait to get it.
Then I'll start comparing the two - Buzz Box and Blue Box. If you want I could post some samples then.

:)
bye

Thanks for the clips.

I have a question about the Blue Box. Does it have a built-in gate? I think I read/heard somewhere that it does. Does that mean that it will sometimes abrubtly cut off when it drops below the threshold? I didn't hear that happen in any of the above clips, but the playing style wasn't sustaining notes for super-long (doom-style!) as I am hoping to do. I love the chaos factor of the Blue Box, but I require sustain. However, I may just have misconceptions about it. Can anyone educate me? Thanks.

Came across this thread. I know its a Zombie thread but I would like to revive it. I always enjoyed the sound of my Blue Box but it definitely isn't perfect right out of the box. I immediately did the C11 mod when I got it to increase the output and it also changes the fuzz tone a bit and opens it up and makes it more usable for bass IMO. However that still never seemed to give me enough volume even when maxed. So recently I had it modded with a small jfet boost that was installed in the battery compartment. I now achieve unity and beyond no problem. I also had a switch installed to change the octave from 1 octave down to 2 octaves down. Where the switch was originally installed caused an RF interference so it needed to be moved. That is why there is two LEDs now. :)

Anyway, it sounds really great and makes for a much more versatile unique fuzz tone than your standard stock model. These mods are fairly easy to do and I think it is definitely worth it. Here is what mine looks like.

i have one. I love it to death even though it is not the most useful pedal :)
Yeah it's not your everyday go to fuzz pedal. That being said if you can find ways to utilize it's a really unique sound that is definitely more useable than most think. It's one of those fuzz tones that's gonna make people wonder what it is. The mods open it up for even more uses which is awesome.
