Look at this then. You don't lean into a screen (especially when your "screen" was executed from directly behind a guy who was already in the air and not moving toward you) for no reason. This ain't the same as Iverson crossing over on a guy with a sprained ankle.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Jumping like that reduces your chances of deflecting or altering a shot because you won't jump as high, and Stojakovic is about three inches taller than Bowen.

First of all, happy anniversary :)
I`m not completely convinced about Horry`s innocence. He`s a veteran player and the most experienced playoff player in history. He`s now become a role player with few minutes on court.

That kind of experience gives a LOT of knowledge during crucial games. We all know that these game was decisive and every single detail counts. I can`t assure he tried to hurt West, but I`m almost sure it wasn`t a casual move.

that was a legal pick , the fact that he leaned into is simple physics .
if a moving object coming at you , reaction is to brace yourself , or lean against it .

looks to me like Stojakovic is moving at a high rate of speed ,
and Bowen is moving backwards at same rate of speed , while trying to jump and possibly block his shot .

While I agree that it was a cheesy-playground-I-won't-get-caught kind of pick, I didn't think that in real time it looked particularly malevolent. As always, I could be wrong, and I gotta admit that the still shot posted in this thread was a lot more incriminating than what I saw this morning. Horry's washed up as a player, and he knows it.

Bowen, OTOH, plays great defense even without the dirty ****, which is what makes it seem so over the top. He doesn't need it, so why do it? Next time he causes a high ankle sprain with that BS foot placement on the jumpshooter thing, I'd be fine with the opposing coach sending his biggest, beefiest benchwarmer in to take him out. After all, all's fair in love and playoffs. :)

Thanks for the congrats, BTW - 9 years and going strong. I sure as hell did a lot better this second time around. In addition to being great in a lot of other more important ways, she lets me buy nice basses and watch a ton of ballgames without complaining much. :hyper:

When a player screens in front of or at the side of a stationary opponent, he may be as close as he desires providing he does not make contact. His opponent can see him and, therefore, is expected to detour around the screen.

If he screens behind a stationary opponent, the opponent must be able to take a normal step backward without contact. Because the opponent is not expected to see a screener behind him, the player screened is given latitude of movement. The defender must be given an opportunity to change direction and avoid contact with the screener.

To screen a moving opponent, the player must stop soon enough to permit his opponent to stop or change direction. The distance between the player screening and his opponent will depend upon the speed at which the players are moving.

If two opponents are moving in the same direction and path, the player who is behind is responsible for contact. The player in front may stop or slow his pace, but he may not move backward or sidewards into his opponent. The player in front may or may not have the ball. This situation assumes the two players have been moving in identically the same direction and path before contact.

Emphasis mine. Please notice the repeated statements to the effect that contact is to be avoided when setting screens, hence, the screener is not allowed to make contact with the defender.

It was not, in fact, a "legal" anything. You don't know what you're talking about.

Leaving aside the fact that I'm pretty new to Chicago (and a Magic fan), I wasn't the one who burst in here beating his chest. justjake is acting like his team has it locked up--much like the Pistons themselves often do, which is probably a big reason why they have so often fallen short of winning the title despite all that talent.;)

1. Robert Horry loses the benefit of the doubt based on last year's Nash incident.
2. The NBA stinks as last year they suspend players and change a series of taking one step to the court. This year, anything goes (Horry's shot on West, Garnett pushing a ref, etc.). They over reacted last year, and now are over reacting to that and letting anything fly.
3. Sorry Spurs fans, but you showed yourself to be totally and utterly classless last night chanting "Horry" while West lay on the ground injured.

Well the Lakers are through. I'm happy about that. It was an awesome game to watch, too. I figured at half time that the Jazz had already lost, but to their credit Millsap, Brewer and Williams worked their backside's off to stay in the game and it came down to 1 basket. Great stuff from both teams.

I didn't "burst in here", I've been posting on this thread since post #11 and while I'll admit I'm a Pistons Fan I sure haven't been talking like "my team has it locked up". In fact one of my comments was I think "their just not that good". The sum of the Pistons parts is much better then any of their individuals. They didn't place one player on the all NBA team. I will say this, they are the only team that doesn't have a starter with a glaring weakness. I feel like I've evaluated the teams pretty fairly and the only series I blew it on (so far) was the Magic Toronto series. I'll admit I underestimated the inability of ANYONE on Toronto to play low post defense. I do watch a LOT of NBA basketball, I am opinionated (now thats an understatement!:D) but my calls have been right on so far this season.

But someone did "burst" in here with an immediate put down of the Pistons. Of course I can understand that since your poor little Magic keep getting eliminated by those same Pistons. ;)
