The NBA Playoffs Thread

As a guy who learned to appreciate b-ball watching the Celtics in the 1980's, I am absolutely thrilled that the guys in green got banner #17 last night...but man, that game was so lopsided I found myself wishing there had been a more competitive challenge...a more dignified way for the C's to close out the series. That was almost perverse, like watching a car wreck.

i expected more of a game, but my official stance is: YEEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

funny, the Fox news affiliate here was poised outside of the Garden lastnight commenting on the police presence....gee whiz, it was like they were just praying for some violence to happen.

anyway, what a year to be in boston! damn Patriots. :)

Congrats to the Celtics.
They were the best during the regular season and proved that it wasn`t just "luck" or a "weaker conference".
Not many people realized then that their strength was collective defense and not just 3 big names.

I`m happy they won, they truly deserved it.

I agree with those that call for the Kobe-Jordan comparisons to stop, there's no way MJ would have folded like that.

Plus 17!

I was hoping that the Celts would try playing with lead as oppossed to playing from 15-20 behind. Now that I have lived through both - I definitely like playing from ahead more.

I was also wishing for a lead big enough that the refs couldn't impact it. Thirty points seems to do the trick.

Now Boston has 3 teams that seem to have embraced the philosphy first seen here in the Patriots, soon adopted by the Red Sox: strong ownership willing to pay for players and that pay attention to the fan experience; smart front office people who can evaluate and develop players; coaching staffs that can handle the rabid Boston media and fan base and who prepare their teams well and give them a chance to win.

It is a good time to be fan of Boston sports teams.

Well put. For what it is worth - Detroit and Cleveland did give the Celts a much tougher time. And in a way, those teams (and Atlanta) prepared the Celts for the Lakers. Each of those series seemed to give the Celts the equivalent of a years' worth of Playoff experience so by the time they got LA, they were a seasoned playoff team even though it was there first playoffs together. It may be little consolation to fans of the other Eastern Conference teams, but you really did figure in to the effort to beat LA. Thanks!

The Celtics sure shut up any doubters last night. I'm glad Rondo had a big game. He had at least 6 steals and was a huge part in making the Lakers look foolish. That Gatorade on Doc was fun to watch and the Garnett postgame interview was classic. I'm glad to have seen him, Pierce, Allen, and the entire team win their 17th.

I'm now curious to hear what Bryant has to say about the series and his team after the Finals hype has worn down.

Congrats to the Celtics! I am a fan of Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett, and I had no idea that Paul Pierce was so good!:eek:
Heck, Ray Allen was a student of my Mom when he was in eighth grade, so he's cool too.:)

That said, I guess Kobe (who I really don't like that much) deserves some slack. He seriously had no help. Even Jordan didn't win empty handed. As one writer noted, the year Jordan played baseball, the Bulls still won 55 games, so he had a strong team around him.:cool:
