The NEW acoustic 360/361....

You can often find 370's on Ebay for a reasonable price. You can match the 370 with any of several acoustic cabs or even other makes. The 360, not so much. The vintage 360 really has to go together with a vintage 361 and they don't come around too often.

Yeah, I know these are pricey-- maybe they're over-engineered and over-built. Who knows until we experience one for ourselves?

Anyway, I'm glad the effort was made and new Acoustics have come to fruition. It really was a legendary rig, and is featured on many of my favorite recordings (so sayeth the Led Zeppelin fanboy in me). It is a work of craftsmanship I might enjoy having in my arsenal!

..oh my! I picked one of these cabs up in 1980 after blowing my cab the night before. I paid the guy £60 for it!! He said he didn't know what it was and it was taking up too much space. The cab was powered by a Simms Watts 100 head and with the volume on 2 it could make the optics leak at the back of the bar in a medium sized venue. The volume was at two due to a low roof and the bar staff couldn't hear the customers for the bass.
In largish venues you could gain the audiences total attention by hitting the muted E with your thumb.. I wonder if I invented that?


Nothing before or since was as good for me as that battered bin.

About 3 weeks ago I drove over 300 miles to try out one of the NEW USA 360/361 that was bought from the Acoustic USA company a couple months ago...all I'll say is that the owner was really nice to let my wife and I intrude into his home on a Sunday afternoon with my J bass and a hundred questions, and he is not one of the other previous TB owners of the new Acoustic line. I should admit that I was a previous user of an Acoustic 360 preamp and 3 361 powered cabs beginning in 1970 when our band did a lot of touring and my SVT with 2 810 cabs was'nt doing the job...these cabs never gave me one problem and could be heard WAY better than my SVT/810 cabs...the Acoustic cabs had Mojo...so much so that I just used two of the 361 cabs leaving the 3rd as a back-up...in any case I was very interested in hearing what the new improved even more powerful version of this Acoustic line would sound like.
Well...I was very pleased...so much so that I am planning on buying one as soon as I can sell off a little more gear. I was able to find the perfect tone after just about 60 seconds of minimal tweaking. The tone sounds just right...not the huge, deep, bellowing tone of the old 360/361s ....but more like a solid thunderclap in your face...no distortion what so ever with just the right amount of grit. I tried it out with the Tweeter on and when I tried it in the off position I immediately turned it back on...Wow -what a major positive experience it makes for the bassist. The old Acoustic amps with the reverse mounted 18 INCH WOOFER WITHOUT A TWEETER made it A LITTLE difficult to hear your self ON STAGE...but this new Acoustic 360/361 sounds like a cross between the old Acoustic 360 a SVT classic with an 810 cab next to it without the high gain harmonics going on. Each cab is 400 watts RMS and the preamp can run 4 cabs. These new cabs are not just for big outdoor gigs but could be used for bars, clubs, weddings. The amp was totally quiet. Just like the older acoustics -these are built to last and should easily last 30-40 years in my estimate. I'll let you all know soon when I get mineand will give a full review on TB. All I can say is" thanks George" for continuing to bring this amp out when almost everyone was saying that you were never going to make that happen!! When I get mine, any of you TBers can come vist and play my amp and spread the love. Sorry I have no pics (forgot my camera).

It has a Growl-Grit and a Growl-Level knob. You can get grit if you want it, otherwise distortion free. I must admit I have not gone past 5 on the Volume knob (5 on the Gain) , but did try full bass EQ on both the amp and my Barts at that volume and got no bad sounds.

Also got Compression.

Well ...sound is hard to describe...but the first thing I literally thought of when I heard this cab loud was a "thunderclap"...loud, moving plenty of air, intense, with that soft mid range presence that is so pleasing with an extremely solid low-end "Thud" and refined highs that are easy on the ears...very natural sounding...I enjoyed the amp so much I talked about it for several hours with my wife on the ride home and she could finally understand why I have been so interested in this ampsince 1970 and looking foreward to the updated version of the 360/361 for so many years -but even in her own judgement,she felt it sounded superior to any of the amps that I have owned thus far...and she has a great ear, raised on Classical music, Jazz and IMHO is one of the best music critics that I know. But none of of all that matters...We all would describe the same sound differently anyway:D!! I just liked the way it sounded very much!! I hope this clarifies why I liked it's sound a little more...Peace...DAcat

I played an acoustic 360 today. Actually a couple ... One was the old 60s/70s model, and one was the new model. A certain person here in the Denver area has one of the new acoustic 360 amps. I just love the tone of the acoustic folded 1x18 bass cabinets. So today I got to play through an old acoustic 301 with my ampeg head. God I love the tone. Then I got to play through the old acoustic 360. It was pretty much what I remembered. Then I got to play through the new Acoustic 360. They kept all of the cool features and lost some of the lame features like the tuning fork. This baby is 400 watts of power. I turned the gain and the volume up to 5 and it was louder then I would ever want to play with a band. You can daisy chain 4 cabinets off of just one head. That is if you want hearing loss. The modern electronics include a compressor, and the cabinet has a horn for high frequency response. Those folded horn cabinets really project the bass sound. With one of these you can keep up with a full Marshall stack and a guitar player who turns up too loud. If you want to play loud without pa support this is the bass amp for you.

At the risk of once again being called a "shill" for acoustic - even though I have never played one of the new amps or own one of the new amps (I am an Ampeg guy) I thought I would post this little article that I happened to come across:

Below are a couple of shots I discovered of the Secret Concert At Big Sur of The Red Hot Chili Peppers with Flea playing 3 of the new made in USA Acoustic 360/361 Amps. It looks like Flea has definately made the switch to Acoustic in 3 big ways! These great pics were taken by the photographer Terry Way(see info about his studio below) He gave permission to post them on TB but did ask that these photos not be reproduced or used for other purposes without his permission. :)
