Double Bass The new "Nadine" mic?

That capsule looks like something from the movie Young Frankenstein and nothing I’d want to attach to my tail piece.
If it turns out to be the second coming of bass microphones I could be mildly interested.
The Troll and DPA are good mics as well and fortunately for me the Lifeline seems to be handling all of my needs.
GAS is real so I’ll stay tuned!

Somewhere I read that the whole thing with its huge steampunk xlr Jack and all weighs approx. 1lb. If it's good enough for Christian McBride it might not be a problem at all but, playing lots of arco, I'm a little hesitant both to putting extra weight on the tailpiece, and to attach anything on the afterlengths and effectively killing their resonance.

I watched Martin Wind use the Nadine with a Acoustic Image Claris SL-2 and the Double Shot. It sounded very good, Apparently, he was using a line transformer to match the input to the mike plugging the Nadine directly into an 1/4" input.
As I recall, it took him a bit to get the jack attached to the tailpiece. Once he got it settled and the EQ adjusted it sounded great. Previously, he's used the DPA 4099B here in St. Louis. Both the DPA and the Remic are much lighter in weight.

Oh don’t get me wrong- I heard the samples and REALLY dig the sound so much that I am thinking of trying it. That’s actually for the first time In years that I am intrigued enough to consider a new pickup/mic instead of the Ehrlund.
They have a 30-day money back thing so I can see if it works for me, playing with drummers and all. McBride does it and it doesn’t look to me like he uses another system to mix with...

something else- it does require phantom power or battery, or doesn’t it? I can’t seem to find neither one or the other mentioned anywhere, but condenser mics require a power source unless they are electrets.

Forget that, my blindness. Clearly states in the tech specs that it needs 48V.

I wasn't aware about the 30-Day Money Back trial period. That's something I'll look into. In the past I have seen Christian McBride a number of times and he always seems to have "something new".

When he first came to town he was only using the Electro Voice RE-20, several years later he had the the AMT SB-25 and a Realist on a Christopher Travel Bass.

More recently, when he was touring with Pat Matheny I couldn't see his microphone because he was to far away from me.

As a side note, I understand why you would not want to attach the Nadine’s brass barrel connector to the tailpiece, because it will dampen it’s acoustical properties to some extent. I have a Mike Pecanic compensated tailpiece so
I prefer not to attach anything to it. I wonder if Nadine could build one with a longer cable between the capsule and the barrel connector?

I’m losing the fight so I bought one of these!

No way to know if it will work for you, until you play it yourself. I've heard it live and enjoyed the sound, but the "devil is in the details" Martin Wind's a remarkable player, the new Acoustic Image Double Shot puts out a lot of sound. Not everyone will be able to use it. :)

Not everyone is going to like the mounting system. :)

Here's a Bass Musician Magazine 20 minute interview with Nadine's creator, where he describes how the product was conceived and developed, why those choices were made, tour of the lab, etc.

Nice, I reccommend skipping all the small talk and going to the 15:00-19:00 mi segment, as the question and answer portion of the interview is stuff most of you already know. Just my take

Just saw this again I was curious if anyone bit the bullet and got it? One my my favorite bassist uses it (christian mcbride) however I still see it's just a microphone with no isolation!

So what is the point for ensemble playing? I mean to say atleast the Ischell is isolated by the putty, but unless I am mistaken, this is just another microphone picking up open air in front of the bass along with all other noise right??

Maybe I missed something.

But yes, it does sound amazing. I am just confused on why this would be good for a noisy band setting?

Isolation is certianly an issue. Even pickups will "hear" other instruments, especially drums, they just have a smaller sensor so you don't hear the bleed as much. Probably the only way to get around this is put yourself into one of those portable

plexi Isolation booth like Charlie Hayden did on the Song X Tour. Depending on the size of the ensemble and the style of music a microphone can work really well. Larry Grenadier has been using a Schoeps CMC6/MK41 for a long time. My sense is that I could use one in certian situations, but I may be totally wrong. There is a place for the Nadine within certian groups. Sometimes you can get such a good sound from a particular mic that the bleed almost dissapears into the background.
