The New Talkbass format

With this update, TB went from a pretty typical web forum-----to the most feature rich/modern forum I use. Almost everything is better.

My only complaint is that quoting is a little weird

I like it well enough. It seem much cleaner and streamlined looking. OTOH, I don't seem to reliably get notifications. But I'm suspicious that gmail is having some issues. Some people have reported back to me that my email is bouncing. So who knows?

Loading pics is way easier from my phone, I dig it:smug:

I feel like I just came home from work and someone moved around all the furniture in my house. Also, why have 80% of the threads I follow missing?.....Oh learning curve. Just found them.o_O

Have you tried the "TalkBass Retro" theme? It has a dark blue bar between each post. Here's how your post looks with the Retro theme:

Here's how it looks using NoSquint in Firefox, with the 2014 style:

Those are my color and font size choices, both of which are easily user changeable.

A new issue I've notice: if I manually type in some code, such as italics, I can't see that code if/when I go to edit the post later. So If I accidentally flagged a whole paragraph italic or something, I have to try an visually guess where the code starts and ends. (the italics button will highlight, when you have your cursor in an affected area).

this could really be very frustrating, with large posts.

*If you turn off "use rich text editor" in preferences, you can see bb code/html code when you edit posts. but then you lose all the advanced buttons...

But since the message editor shows the formatting, why do you need to see the bb codes? Couldn't you just highlight the whole paragraph (or at least the section that've inadvertently made italics) and then either hit the italics button or hit [ctrl] i?

I've not had any problems adjusting. I'm cool with it. In fact, I think I might just like it better.

Way easier adjusting to this site than trying to figure out the old phone app.
Maybe the next phone app will be easy too.

TWO more PrObLeMs

1) Searching for something using google (not from within the TB page), and having an old TB thread come up in the results, if I click on it, I get a 404 error... so there's a lot of broken links that'll need mending for the Google search engine.
2) All the old message headers are GgGgGone. Not the thread's subject header, of course, but old TB you could put a little header above your own post and I often put relevant info to the post in that post's subject header. All the headers from the old TB/old threads are AWOL.

What's cool about this thread is learning how others use/perceive TB and how they differ from the way I use it.

It's the opposite for me. The new layout has brought me back. Everything before was quite a mess and too many clicks to get where I wanted to be. No easy way to see where new things were commented and that I'd been quoted in some place.

One thing I do really miss, however, is the button to go right to the newest post on the front page. Now you have to click it at the top of the thread after clicking on the thread first.

Quick edit: Also, everyone gets avatars now? *goes and updates that right away!*

TOO MANY CLICKS is my main complaint for the NEW system! Weird, complete opposite. Not sure what you mean about missing the newest post on the front page, I'm still clicking on the newest post on the front page. One of the first things I did was add my avatar.

It's just one of two ways - the more intuitive way is perhaps to go to your user preferences and choose the style there. Click your user name top right on the page and select Preferences.

It wasn't intuitive. I searched my user preferences and couldn't find it; somebody told me about the lower left corner's ability to change the look of TB and that's how I got to try Old vs New look. Old is much easier on the eyes, more definition of who posted what as per others' observations on the matter.

It feels basically like a combination of TH and Facebook...as far as that goes I'm still on the fence. I'm sure as I use it more it'll get better...

What's "TH"? Typo and you meant "TB"?
I'd rather do without any FB "features" or similarities, please and thank you very much.
