The new Yamaha BB425

They are available all over in Europe, but not anywhere I can see in the US.

No, but it seems like Yamaha removed the 414/415 from their lineup in favor of the 424/425.

The only change I'm able to make out is the 5-piece neck (still bolt-on), and the price tag - about 80 euros more. Not sure if it's worth it - I'd buy a 414 while they're still available (if I didn't have one already).

Apparently the 424's have the new Yamaha BB pick ups and string through body's unlike the 414's, give it time and the prices will come down for all the new BB models.

From the link, the neck looks a little wider than the BB415, which is a good thing IMO. My 415 is pretty small for a 5

String-thru is exactly what I've been waiting for - hopefully the 424 and 425 will be available in the USA soon...

I talked to a Yamaha rep this morning. He said the new BB series will be introduced to the US in early 2011.

What the hell? From the specs, "Nut : Urea"

Gives a whole new meaning to the term P-bass....

Well, I'm glad to see that Yamaha is keeping up the five-string version. I was disappointed when they discontinued the 415.

The new five piece necks wouldn't show from the front if the headstock was painted.

I wonder why most of the featured artists play maple necks (fretboard) and Yamaha doesn't offer them to the market.. that's bad marketing...!!!

I grew tired of waiting for Yamaha to release the new BB's (425) in the states. I recently bought a used BB415 from a TB'er and am happy to have one of these fine passive P5's to play. I am still amazed of how much bass for so little money.

Larry: someone had posted a link into the ishibashi japanese website and they had a billy sheehan model yamaha w/ a 2-blade neck humbucker and a p pick-up. looked brutal!

I have seen that model, Jeff. It is 4 string only I believe. I would be interested if it had a B string. Thanks for the heads-up!
