I got to look at "The Fight" (finally) @home.

Did you guys hear the KHL has announced that any Russian player who returns to the KHL will not count against the team salary cap?

Yup. They are deathly afraid of guys like Radulov and the guy that just signed with Calgary staying gone forever. After Radolov's stunt with AK, he can stay gone for all I care.
Since we are already out of the playoffs, it's time for Preds fans to look towards free-agency and the draft.
My take: Suter and Weber stay, and the team tries to build up around having a solid D group and goalie. I feel like we'll have a fair amount of turnover on the wings, and I'll be sad to see guys like Tootoo go, but it seems inevitable for our growth and long term success.
A few snippets from the Tennessean today:
Suter on staying: "Nashville is a great place to live and raise a family."
Weber: "We have a lot of work to do to make it back here next year."
SK: My agent is going to talk to [General Manager David Poile] and [Barry] Trotz. We will see what is going to happen in the summer. I would like to stay here more than one year. We are going to talk about more than one year.
Gill and Bullion have also asked for contract extensions, but I don't see us keeping both of them. I'd prefer Gill to Bullion for a single season, as he has his name on the cup, and because he gives us a large, shot-blocking guy to pair with the young'ins.

Just got home from practice and they're talking about Doan being kicked out of the game and possibly suspended but I have no idea what happened yet.
I went to three places & finally found a place that had that NBC channel, caught the 3d period. ****ing hanzal boarded Brown bad--I thought Brown was dead. So cheap.
Doan boarding (and drew blood) on Lewis. 5 min. major plus game misconduct. To be reviewed by the league.
The Coyotes looked like scared wild animals trapped in a corner last night - lots of panicked scrambling around. Their failure to put together anything offensively was vented on the Kings phyisically, and they spent a LOT of time with guys in the penalty box in the last half of the game. They kind of shot themselves in the foot, and the Kings were able to take advantage of it.
I understand that a goalie has to protect his crease, and players invading that space sometimes need a physical reminder, but Mike Smith is an a-hole.
Yeah caught up after I posted that. Here's what I took from last night.
Doan doesn't deserve a suspension. His hit wasn't that bad, and the blood was from the player's own visor cutting his nose.
Hanzal DOES deserve a suspension. Really bad hit.

As I understand it, if the boarding hit is hard enough to draw blood, there is a mandatory game misconduct, plus league review. If Lewis hadn't been wearing a visor, I'd bet the damage would have been worse with his face hitting the top edge of the boards. IMO, the penalty Doan got was justified, but should not go any further.
Hanzal's hit on Brown should be reviewed further, but I won't be surprised if there's nothing additional.
Brown can get a little chippy and instigates a lot of stuff, but that dude can take (and give) a beating. He's a tough bastard. If he was on another team, I'd probably hate him - lol.

I don't argue the misconduct penalty on Doan. I would like the refs to make that call every time, to eliminate as much grey area as possible. I just meant I don't think he should receive any additional punishment.

My problem is on the other foot. When will the NHL allow teams to go over the cap w/o penalty match KHL free agent contracts? The Wings lost Jiri Huddler after a 57 point season to a KHL team as a restricted free agent, not only were they not able to go over the cap to match the contract, they received no compensation.
I get the Salary cap, but in this case a team was penalized for good cap management and even better playing development.
Id say that's one example of the merits of focusing a team's development program on North American talent.

What a game tonight at MSG. Lundqvist and Brodeur made some awesome saves. The MSNBC guys were going on and on and on and on about the Rangers and shot blocking. OK already, we get it. It's not like no other team in the league does it.

Heck, even I am sick of it.. especially as a Rangers fan, I have to hear it every damn game from these schmoes on NBC.
I think it was Pierre McGuire who made a dumb comment how Salvador and whoever his defense partner is were making superhuman shot blocks, kind of like the Rangers do. I was laughing my ass off... not sure what he was insinuating by that one, but I guess it was a compliment all around.
Anyway, disappointing loss tonight. We got outplayed for most of the game, and dropped our third Game 2. I still dislike seeing Brodeur make ridiculous saves by flopping on the ice, it's brutal.
