The Official 2012 NHL Stanely Cup Finals Thread: Part II

Wonder how many bandwagon Philly fans I know will pretend they've been watching basketball all year and cheer for the Sixers if the Flyers lose this series.

Not talking about you guys of course. You're actually hockey fans. Most of my Philly friends from college didn't watch a single game of regular season hockey then trash talk during the playoffs.

Hey...let me help you out Philly. These aren't the Pens anymore. You'll need to play for 60 minutes each game to beat New Jersey three more times. Brodeur is not Fleury, so he won't be tired.

Discussing crease crashing with Brodeur. Interesting. I'm not the only one who has noticed it.

-Mike

And Wayne Simmonds is talking trash as he goes off the ice after taking a roughing call as the game ends. Real classy move from someone whose team gave up 4 third-period goals.

Watch it again. He was talking smack to that dude because he came in and rammed into Simmonds first. Granted, Simmonds was skating toward a different Devil, but nevertheless, the second Devil hit Simmonds before he started after him.

As for the game itself, very lackluster performance by the Flyers after the 1st period. The Devils were quicker, hungrier, and outplayed them. They deserved the W...

Brodeur is not Fleury, so he won't be tired.
Especially when he's only seeing 2-3 shots per Period.
Last night reminded me of those Flyers/Devils Playoff games from 2000s...Devils defence choked off Philly's push. Result: Less than 5 shots on goal for Periods at a time.

Jersey adjusted after Period_1 last night. Philly did not adjust after Period_2.

Last night the Flyers fans felt like the Pens fans last week. It sucks to watch your team get the life choked out of them by a good defense.

-Mike

I think that the Flyers' situation last night was vastly different than the Pens' situation last week, since the Pens were shut down in an elimination game where they trailed for almost the entire game.

By the way, since I know that you were very concerned with this, last night's attendance ended up being 20,131. Capacity for hockey at the Wells Fargo Center is 19,537.

Good to hear the Flyer fans made it to the game. I assumed so since the WIP guys didn't make mention of it. Is game five sold out?

I was not speaking of specifically game six, just in general during the series. Laviolette's defensive strategy combined with the Pens seeming lack of heart made for some tough stretches of hockey to watch for Pens fans.

-Mike

Flyers played last night liek they believed every word out of Barry Melrose' Place (Flyers as Avengers reference if you didn't see it).

Too bad Bryz caved in the third.

Brodeur wasn't himself and was making some bad plays with the puck. if the Fleyrs ahd been on their game, they could have made him pay.

Now this is interesting... Look at what popped up on USA Today's website in their meager NHL section:

Invalid Link Removed

Don't know if the photo in the article has been photshopped or not (even the article calls it into question) but even to photoshop something like this is ridiculous.

Blah,....Bryz is starting to look sharp,....and the D starts to stand around like pylons. I checked the score after the Clarkson goal,...stopped watching. I don't have time to watch 4 3rd period Goals Against. On the Clarkson Goal,...if Bryz keeps his glove hand off of Parise as he is being pushed through the crease area,....it's available to make that save.

Hopefully they shake this one off and get back on track for game 3.

Wayne Simmonds is not African American, he's from Canada...

Same with Joel Ward.

Yup. Good job checking facts USA Today. *Gasp* Canada has black people living in it too.

I'm not offended by that. Should I be?

-Mike

It's all about context,...I don't find it offensive,...but *gasp* I'm not black (so I can never pretend to understand) and I have a thick skin.

Do I think it's in good taste? No. I find it more distasteful to Simmonds as a person than it is to Simmonds as a black person. Why not put his name on your Jersey? Or do we think we are clever? Or did we just rip the name plate off a Carter jersey and put something stupid on it.

Simmonds has a name, but I guess for some people that is too hard of a concept to wrap one's head around. Unfortunately for hockey,...there are some "Lowest Common Denominator" fans out there.

This begs the question,...do NBA and NFL fans get custom jerseys that say,...."The White Guy"? [satire implied here]
