Croby was too busy trying to find someone smaller than him to fight. He took his chances on Schenn then remembered he stood up to Ashams best and kept playing, so he backed off.

Man, that game was nuts. I've got no love for Philly, but it really did seem that Pittsburgh started more than their share of that chaos. Not always the case though, but seemed to be today.

I tuned in during the first intermission, so I didn't see the Asham hit... gotta find it somewhere online. Neal's always seemed like a reasonably classy guy; I was pretty surprised to see him take runs at Couturier and Giroux. Pretty sure I saw Couturier back out there afterwards, so that's good.

Can't wait for Game 4!

I was at a gig this afternoon, so I'm watching the game on DVR and I've just gotten to the point in the third period right now where Neal took a run at two Flyers. You Penguins fans should be ashamed of your team. The lack of sportsmanship they displayed is a disgrace. But I guess the Penguins team is a reflection of its captain. The Flyers have heart. The Penguins have Crosby.

Thumbs down to the officials too for a horrible job in this game. Had they called Neal for his charge on Couturier, none of that third period mess would have happened.

Yeah, yeah. It would be no different if the roles were reversed. What Neal did surprised me as that is not the way he plays. Asham was being Asham. I didn't see anything outlandish from Lamkin, but Crosby definitely let his frustrations come out.

The Pens are getting beat up and down the ice the whole game, and for the third game in a row now. A few of their players lost their cool, which can be unfortunate byproduct of being so aggravated. It's too bad, and as a Pens fan, it is embarrassing. Especially considering guys like Staal and Kennedy have not given in to the frustrations.

Oh well, it will all be over in a couple days.

So Hagelin's getting three games for his elbow on Alfredsson, and Carkner's only getting one game for cheap-shotting Boyle.

I've always thought Shanahan did a pretty good job in his task of assigning punishment, particularly since it's a relatively thankless job. But I've gotta say, between the Weber ruling and these two, I don't know what he's thinking.

Weber intentionally smashes Zetterberg's head into the wall twice and gets nothing. Hagelin accidentally gets an elbow up on Alfredsson and gets three games. Carkner cold-cocks a guy and gets a single game, even though he's got a history of doing that. The only thing that makes sense is that he puts a lot of emphasis on whether or not someone sustains an actual injury (yes in Alfredsson's case, no for Zetterberg and Boyle), but it seems to me that intent ought to weigh just as heavily.

Anyway... interesting stuff. Can't wait to see what comes down from the insanity in Philadelphia today.

Asham will get a suspension. The only question is going to be how long. The bigger question is whether Neal will get suspended as well. He should--he was obviously head-hunting.

I really dislike this process, and not just because of the result in this instance. To give such weight to a player's injury which is occurring after the fact is kind of warped in my mind. Aren't we trying to control and discipline the initial conduct, regardless of result? There is no penalization if the person on the receiving end just happens not to be particularly hurt.

After what happened with Weber, I'm amazed at this. Hagelin should have done another WWE move instead of elbowing someone... perhaps a powerbomb would have only been a $5,000 fine.

Sidenote: On a morality level, Hagelin was nothing but apologetic to Alfredsson and went out of his way to leave him a message. He even mentions how much he looks up to Alfredsson as a fellow Swede and respects him a lot, but he just got swept up in a physical game.

Carkner, on the other hand, responds by saying that Boyle should have been able to defend himself. Pathetic.

That's right, I forgot the time on the Adams fight. I got a VM from a Pittsburgh number. Must be Shero looking for some warm buddies for game four.

Panthers hang on and tie up the series.
