As a die hard Blues fan that was a fun ending. The Sharks were just taking a lot of cheap dirty shots and the Blues finally had enough of it. Shaping up to be a great series.

Great win by the Caps! Missed the game for band practice, but I'm glad to hear that Backstrom got it... good to see he's going to be a factor in the series. Now here's to hoping we keep playing well at home!

All I'll say is that this series is far from over. Going back to Philly, I think the pressure falls more onto Philly than Pittsburgh. The home fans will turn on the Flyers if they fall behind, so they really need to avoid giving up another big lead early.

That said, I do think the young Flyers have energized the entire team. And having those young legs keeps the team from sucking wind as they get into the 3rd period. And they have the mind-set that they are never truly out of a game, even when trailing. That attitude goes a long way.

While I thoroughly enjoyed that game,...which was unfortunately spoiled for me since the bar I was playing a show at had ESPN on and I caught a glimpse of "FLYERS 8.....". This falling behind early has got to stop. Sooner or later their luck is gonna run out and the Penguins will adjust. It could be a 7 game series and the Pens may be down,...but they are not out by any stretch.

I really don't like that the Pens are out muscling the Flyers. Maybe it's the rookie factor or the timing is just such that the hits look more violent than they actually are,...but there doesn't seem to be an answer back. The Flyers D are gonna wear out before they know it.

I saw the Giroux attempted kick at an opposing player. I know he plays with an edge,...but it's gonna be hard to be a fan of the guy if he keeps up with antics like that. Not cool.

Surprisingly so far, the Flyers/Penguins series seems to be the one with the least amount of fights/antics after the whistles. A couple of those games last night were getting ugly!

OK, thunderstorm this morning, already? They weren't supposed to be here til 1 this afternoon. Guess maybe the Flyers game won't be interrupted then!

I saw that happen years ago...a puck from the warm-up session got lodged in the net. The game begins & eventually the extra puck came into play.
After that, the linesmen are supposed to inspect both nets prior to the opening face-off.

John Brophy?!!! Now THERE is a blast from the past! I remember watching him with the Long Island Ducks playing my beloved Johnstown Jets when I was a teen. Brophy put the fear of God into many a minor league hockey player. He was said to be the player upon which Paul Newman's Reggie Dunlop character was based in "Slap Shot!"

We had great times in the ECHL...I knew many fans of the HR Admirals loved goin' into Johnstown for a Saturday night game.
From what I heard-
Brophy wouldn't allow Slap Shot to be shown on the bus during road trips.

Do you know the AHL Admirals are currently on a 27-game winning streak?

And speaking of "Slap Shot!", that movie was filmed in my hometown (Johnstown, PA).

So...what's the deal with that dog?

Ottawa is really trying to get under our skin this game. I can't even believe that Dubinsky got thrown out for defending Boyle after he was pretty much blindsighted by Carkner and was repeatedly hit while on the ground. Boyle never even took off his gloves or intended to fight.

Dubinsky wasn't the 3rd-man in...he was the 2nd-man in...

Yeah, that was pretty dirty by Carkner. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him for the rest of the series. Boyle's a dirtbag though; he's constantly roughing guys behind the play, and Prust is worse... he's only out there because he's bush league. Last year in the playoffs, he was shoving the Caps goalie after every save, trying to instigate a fight.

Boyle didn't deserve Carkner's punk move, and Carkner deserves whatever he gets, but I still smile whenever I see the replay.

If I recall, he was supposed to have performed some heroic action during the 1889 flood in Johnstown. But I really don't know for sure. I left Johnstown in 1968 when I went into the military, so I got a bigger kick out of seeing some of the bars that I remembered in "Slap Shot!"

Both Hagelin and Carkner have hearings today. We'll see what happens with happens...

With Hagelin, considering what happened with Weber, should Hagelin really get anything more than a fine? I'd like some consistency with the rulings, and I don't think there was an intent to injure personally, certainly no more than taking someone's head and smashing it into the boards/glass. At the same time, Zetterberg wasn't hurt on the play, and Alfredsson may not come back (especially considering his history with concussions). Will that impact Shannahan's decision?

Carkner, on the other hand, should get a game or two for hitting a guy when he was down and never fought back. Appalling that the ref just stood there watching it.

In the event Hagelin does get suspended, I foresee the Rangers throwing Kreider in there to test the waters.

I'm actually not terribly upset at Hagelin. Like Weber, he probably deserves a game suspension (for whatever reason, Weber didn't receive one), but I don't think Hagelin was being malicious, just careless. It was a dangerous play for which there should be repercussions, and hopefully Alfredsson is okay, but to my knowledge Hagelin doesn't have any real history of these types of things (not like most of the other Rangers ).
