Steve C-
I disagree.
Every so often, you get games like this.
Usually, though, it is a series (or two) between bitter rivals (Flyers-Pens; Flyers-Rangers; Flyers-Devils; Flyers-Sabres...) ;-)

I still say most don't watch hockey because-
They didn't play the game in their youth...and they can't relate (& don't want to learn). A draw a similar parallel with Jazz...most can't relate (or don't want to learn).
No doubt, there are some that like the fighting (same people that like NASCAR for the crashes, I guess).

TV & hockey? That's easy. It is a difficult sport for TV timeouts & commercials.
People will then say "...hockey is not popular".
I usually counter with-
It's very popular because it's arenas are filled with asses in the seats.
Any putz can sit at home & watch the NBA or MLB...it takes effort to drive to an arena, pay too much to park, sit in your seat for the next 4-5 hours, fight your way outta the parking area, drive home, etc.
;)

I agree with what Jim wrote and would add that hockey is the sport that benefits most from having a big screen HD. As more and more folks get the big HDs, more will revisit hockey and get on board.

I so hope Jody shelly is in the line up and accidentally hits crosby high but meant to go low. :) I would like to know what part of him punching the kid in the back of the head afterwards when he was face down on the ice was by accident. lol.

Pittsburgh is getting what they deserve just like any other team that would have done those plays. Now the fans and players should just take it with class and not keep making themselfs look foolish by trying to justify it.

i always thought of Asham as a goon when he played in Philly
I seem to recall him having a losing fight record

He was good team guy though

That's not my recollection. Asham can throw them. There's no doubt about that. He'd destroy Schenn in a fight. That's not a battle Schenn would want to get into. In this situation, he definitely tried to cross-check him. But I don't really think his intent was to go that high with it. Those things happen occasionally. But by punching him while he was on the ice, it made the cross-check look worse as well. Like there really was an intent to injure (whether that was his initial intent or not).

I disagree about giving Neal the benefit of the doubt on the Couturier hit. I read where Neal said it was accidental, but I don't buy that. He went out of his way to nail him, despite the fact that Couturier was nowhere near the puck. And talk about leaving your feet. He launched himself.

And he went out of his way to go head-hunting on Giroux. I was surprised by his actions. Goes to show you how easily your emotions can get out of control in a rough game - especially when frustrated.

As for Adams, I'm not sure if he saw that Crosby was initiating the contact with Hartnell. Almost pulled him off his skates from behind. It looked almost like Adams was surprised when he tried to get Hartnell away from Crosby and couldn't break him loose. But then Adams punched Hartnell on the back and back of the head about 7 times before Hartsy could break free and get into a position to defend himself. An ugly series of events all around. Here's hoping that they can all (both teams) just play solid hockey the rest of the series.

+1

I have to admit, the whining and defending of game 3 is digging the hole deaper. I wish crosby would do a press conference, just so he can taint his own image farther.

Asham definitely wins more than he loses, and won't hesitate to drop the gloves with guys much bigger than him.

Who is complaining? You keep complaining that people are complaining. Complaining about complaining = complaining.

Hahaha. Again I will say to you glass houses. You need to read your own posts. Heres the facts, the nhl felt the pens needed disciplinary actions, the pens will be missing three players in the playoffs because of thier actions, the flyers are in thier heads and they are falling apart, and its 3 games to 0. Game 4 in Philly. The rest means nothing.

I agree. Hockey looks great on a plasma screen. I'll add that fighting should not be allowed. I doesn't have to be "part of the game" as they say. They don't allow/expect/encourage it in any other sport. It's ridiculous.

Skate, pass, shoot, score. Leave the other crap out of it.

I have to admit between the Pens poor play, the high scoring games, and the huge increase in violence above and beyond the flow of the game, I am not really enjoying this years NHL playoffs.

11 misconduct penalties in 12 games? No thank you.

Flyers boards are calling for Shelley to dress and close out his career in a blaze of glory! One punch to Crosby's face is all they are asking.

I haven't heard that the Flyers are even thinking of dressing that kind of a line-up. They insist they aren't going to be drug down by game 3.

Any of you guys listen to hockey on the radio? Just this season, I started listening to most Pens games via the Android app. I even found the Bruins on the local radio station and tuned that in. I really like it.
