At least as of last week, the Flyers led the league in both minor penalties for and minor penalties against. Putting aside how improbable that feat is in and of itself, it's interesting that it was the *other* game last night that had so many penalties.

Well, I'll come out then and say I'm not first a Flyers fan. I'm really a hockey fan and Hershey Bears fan first, then a huge Flyers fan. Unfortunately, I can't get the Hershey Bears very often on TV. I do miss seeing them play live.

Actually, I've complained plenty of times about the "flow" in games the Wings won in playoffs in threads past. I recall a few in last years San Jose series. I can recall at least a couple of playoff series that the refs definitely effected the outcome. One was the Buff-Dallas finals that was WON on a goal that would NEVER have been allowed the entire season due to very strict enforcement of the in the crease rule.

And as a general hockey fan I don't believe the Wings get a "good" whistle. Do they always get a bad one? Nope, far from it, and for the most part the bad calls seem to even out. But Bettmen has never liked Detroit because he thinks the Wings winning is bad for the ratings, and he goes out of his way to screw them. And I think it does occasionally effect games and rarely effects a series.

As far as the flow of the game, that's just basic stuff. Two of the least penalized teams in Hockey had more Penalties twelve minutes into the first than Pitt-Phil had for the entire game. It was an abortion, and pathetic hockey to watch, because the players were hesitant to make plays for fear of a whistle. I don't believe it was a coincidence that Bettman was in the stands either. That's the kind of Hockey the little spineless little weasel commissioner likes.

No surprise there, see my comments on the Commish in the previous post. I can guarantee you that happens to a star on any other team its a suspension.

So the league officials have effected the series already. Buy not suspending Weber the league has announced that he has a different set of rules than the rest of the players, pure BS. But I'm not the least bit surprised. Do you think a Red Wing would get a suspension for retaliating? If the league won't protect your players its BS. Weber grabbed his helmet by the back and slammed it into the boards. That's a five game suspension for Kromwell.

There’s nothing even approaching legal body contact. This is just violence, an excessive overreaction, and, for a great pro like Weber, not at all professional. In that moment, Weber lost it. His defense may be rooted in the schoolyard, but his response was straight out of The Sopranos.

The reasons why Weber didn’t get what he truly deserves started on the ice and the way the play was called by the officials. He was assessed only a two-minute roughing minor, which is ludicrous. This was a deliberate attempt to injure, a match penalty. After looking at the replay a number of times, one could make a case that the referee in the opposite corner may have had his view obscured by other bodies, but the linesman who comes right in afterward had a perfect view and linesmen are permitted to assist the referee in calling majors, misconducts and match penalties.

As Weber reminds us, however, it’s the playoffs, so you never know for certain what rules will or will not be enforced, and league officials — both on the ice and in the NHL office — are hesitant to do anything that will take a player out of the lineup, especially that player as valuable as Weber. We’ve argued before that is backward thinking, that in the league’s showcase event, the Stanley Cup playoffs, the standards for discipline should be more strictly enforced, not less. Teams want their players to be more accountable in the postseason, but the league lets them be less so and turns its back on dangerous play like this.

Like I said: it's the playoffs. You're supposed to get abused. Weber will take his fair share. The players should be policing themselves anyway.

I can live with all of the crap that so ften gets maligned in this thread. The missed penalties, the phantom penalties, missed offsides, missed poke checks from the bench, etc. That's all part of the game. I don't let it bother me.

What I can't stand are the f'n linesmen acting like the stars of the show and refusing to drop the puck without waiving at least one guy out of the circle.......And I'll stop there, b/c if I talk anymore about it it will turn into a rant of biblical proportions.

Weber DIDN'T deserve a suspension. Are you guys joking!? He is a first time offender that was retaliating to a knee-to-knee run from behind. I completely agree with Shanahan's statement on the incident: "reckless but reactionary."The refs lost control of the game and it showed. They called the wrong penalties instead of the stray elbows and late runs.

I can say this though. The Preds are more than willing to take things into their own hands if the refs refuse to police the game the right way. Gaustad and Klein looked like they were ready to tear Holmstrom and Zetterberg apart after they slipped shots in. If Detroit is more interested than crying foul than they are in winning the series, I'm okay with that. We'll continue to play physical hockey and take the series.

I'm honestly getting fed up with Detroit biased media and fans. The cried when we got Radz back without clearing the waivers, yet they were completely okay with our 1st round pick walking and us not getting any compensation. Completely okay with having a thug like Bertuzzi being on the ice, but want to cry when a player retaliates to a late, knee-to-knee shot from behind. Cry about being in the spotlight and the league hating them, yet they got thrown into a division with a weak St. Louis team and 2 expansion teams. "Betman hates us," Put us in the East," "Why doesn't he have to clear waivers?" All you guys do is whine. No wonder the other teams in the league hate you.

We get NO national TV coverage despite being a consistently good team the last 8 seasons, our players and coaches get passed over every year for awards so players in bigger markets can get the spotlight shown on them, our players have been hurt by late, flagrant shots from other teams, and we don't whine about it. We just accept it as hockey and continue to play our tough, hard working game.

Could you please explain to me the physics of a "knee to knee shot from behind. Does Weber have knees on the back of his legs.

I wish I had someone to watch this Rangers game with... sometimes I feel like an idiot cheering by myself haha I decided to watch it in the privacy of my own home versus going to a local bar.

Ottawa had great puck possession from the beginning of the first to the middle of the second, but haven't produced. Blame Lundqvist and McDonagh/Giardi for that. Since halfway through the second the Rangers just kicked on the jets and have dominated the play, scoring two goals in the last minutes of the second.

Some calls have been suspect on both sides, but this game is still exciting as heck with all the hits and intensity. 3-0 going into the third. I can only hope we don't pull a 'Penguins'.

Haha, nice. Our dog was chilling on the couch while I was watching last night. My wife came by the room a few times to check on the game. She's not all that interested in hockey, so she left quick.

Great game in Boston. 1-0 games are my favorite, and this one is going to end that way. Overtime playoff hockey.....uber ultra mega super extra exciting.

Question....what is it with the poor technology and hockey helmets? Every guy has a big red shiner right in the middle of his forehead when the helmet comes off. Can't someone make a helmet with better padding up there?
