I have a few rigs I run through. I have a Rack amp and a 2x10 + 2x15 stack that I like to play the 7-string with. That sounds pretty good, but I need a bigger stack to make that low C# sound proper. I tried my friend's SVT Classic running through an old Ampeg Refrigerator Cab + Acoustic Control 301 that would quite literally take your breath away...

Update.
Got a call Sunday morning.
The Delano's are in.
The scratchy gain pot has been resolved without putting in the new preamp.
But there was a small issue with the bridge's string-thru ferrules.
(the gold screw is pointing at the ferrule)Hipshot.jpe

The tech wasn't in but I went down to GC today after work.
One of the salesmen bought it out to me.
The black finish on the threads of the ferrules made threading them into the saddles tight at first.
But then they went in easily!o_O:rollno:
The Tech didn't really try!

I resolved it myself and left it there for them to finish the installation.:rollno:

I've never had any problems with GC.
I hope that all the rumours don't come true.

It should be done soon.

I've got my bass.The Delano's are in.

The tone is pretty much the same as the old pickups.
That's OK!I wasn't trying to change the tone.
It's still a monster!
But the D string was weak.And I had my suspicions.

But the verdict is in!
I was right!

The reason that the D string volume was weaker that the other strings IS because KHL used a six string split coil pick up!
The D string fell in between the split in the coil!
I took one of the pickups and cut the face off.

The Delano's are duo coil bars.

On the other hand,the tech apparently overestimated his ability to route and install the Hipshot bridges and backed out of the installation.
So after weighing my options.
I've decided to sell the single string bridges and get a Hipshot A bridge.

Test mount.Loosely attached.
I was going to use the old single string saddle holes,but the bridge wouldn't be centered correctly in them.

Now.

In order for the bridge to sit at 35" scale it will sit on top and cover the string thru holes.
The screw holes line up.But not directly!Off center!
So I'll have to fill four of the seven string thru holes with wood pegs so I can mount the bridge in that place.

The great thing about a seven string is:Not only can you play regular bass,

Using Touchstyle technique on all the strings!

You can also do high register chords.
Use a pick for lead lines.
Or tap massive polychords.

I got this because I wanted an N/S Stick.
But an N/S Stick is $2,600.00.
This was $560.00.
And is one string away from a N/S Stick.

That Clement looks great!
I remember seeing is a six string Clement without tone/volume.
Did you install the electronics?The vid shows you playing it without tone and volume controls.

Yes, self installed electronics and now tune it BEADGCF. The passive 250K pots with a .068 capacitor give it a more pleasing tone to my ears. The original was just too bright and less flexible for what I was aiming for. Oh, I just reread the statement above about being a 6 er? It was always a 7 string from conception. It was Tom's first "Darlene" shaped bass.

Adding a picture of my other Clements because you will see the 6 string you probably saw me post on another thread. It has no controls onboard and has an NP6 pickup "Nordstrand Precision 6" which is also a Clement Darlene.

Here is mine. Stock photo as I'm not home right now. Cheapie import Zdressy, but surprisingly very well built with a few quirks. Neck is very solid and tons of sustain, and is unfinished which I like. Rounded body, nice woodgrain and finish. Pots are silky smooth, better than my Ibanez's were when new. Wiring is good quality but it was wired just plain wrong, I'll rearrange it sometime. Pickups seem decent. String gauges are far from balanced, but I wanted it with the low F# anyway so I bought a couple D Addario singles and fitted it up. Tuners and bridge are quality units. Side dots are where they would be on a fretted bass (but I heard even some Warwicks came that way). I'll change that sometime too. Overall I'm very happy with it.

Nope, the wood truss rod cover isn't custom. It's Ibanez stock. I think BTB7 might be the only bass that Ibanez had put wood cover on it. Unfortunately the back electronic cavity cover doesn't get the same treatment... :thumbsdown:

Not that I'm utterly crazy about using gold hardware... Initially, it was because I always use light weight tuners on my basses, either Hipshot Ultralite or Gotoh Res-o-lite. On my Ibanez, I always swap the stok tuners with Res-o-lite tuners.

The second reason was because the earliest model of BTB7 was using gold hardware. So it's kinda wanting to imitate the limited run BTB7.

Lastly, I also think the gold hardware look good on natural dark wood. Coincidentally I haven't had this kind of combination before. Almost all my other Ibanez are using cosmo black hardware. So... why not if this one I chose gold
