Our of curiosity, do you run your Di pre or post eq? Obviously it’s probably most common to run them pre eq, but any good case for post eq?
For me, pre-EQ would be preferred in the studio, and in live situations where there's a real pro handling the mix. In a bar or club situation where the sound guy seems uninvolved, minimal/no time for sound check, etc., I'll feed him the post-EQ and manage things myself.

I am not sure if i ever uploaded my rig here...

EBS Fafner TD600 with Neoline 210 and Neoline 410

Hi there EBS owners, I bought a Drome sight unseen and my friend just dropped it off from Slovenia here to Prague.
I paid €350 and it's in great shape, I initially thought it's a 12", but it's the 15".

I have a 4*10 + rack for big venues and this was supposed to replace a 1*12 Bergantino cab + shuttle head, since a combo is more transportable and better for practices and small shows.
The 15" seems a bit big, but it has wheels and a handle so I can go with it by public transport.

THE QUESTION! is whether I should hold on to it or try and sell it, and find a (rare) 12" variant?

The 12" versions are rare enough, but more common. I have one, and love it - it's an excellent combo that's been my go-to for rehearsal and cafe gigs for over a decade. The Drome 15s are rarer, and €350 for one in good condition is a steal. If you really are living in the city and using public transit, it's probably actually easier to transport than the 12. I'm pretty sure it's the same 130W amp, so with a 15" it should be a bit louder than the 12 - which might seem underpowered for you if you're used to working with a Shuttle mini-stack. The real question is: Do you like how it sounds? If you do, keep it. If you don't, take your time and sell it for what it's worth. If I still lived in Europe, I'd make you an offer.

That's a fair assessment. It's rated at 150 Watts and works really well, apart from the character button which occasionally cuts out.
The shuttle stack sounds great, but is incredibly inconvenient to transport, so the drome has it beat already, it's just fairly bulky.
I'm getting used to how it sounds, it's a bit flat or sterile for lack of better words, but it's already growing on me.
How much smaller is there 12" version, for those who own it?
I think the 15" is longer back to front than my Bergantino 4*10, but like you said, for that price it can be a nice work horse amp.

my first time with EBS was at a studio ... there i played an hd350 with a 410 pro-line cab... i was amazed!!! i had to have an amp like that one... so after a lot of savings (these weren't cheap) i bought an EBS drome combo 1x15. i think it was 2006 or 2007 when i bought it. 13 years later still have it, still play it, still is in great shape, reliable....

What are your go to settings? I have a couple of pbasses too, I generally play with flats.

Sounds like you need to clean the Character switch - easy enough to do if you're comfortable pulling out the amp section to get behind the face plate - with high quality contact cleaner. Keeping the effects loop switching jacks clean is also important on these amps. I don't think "flat" or "sterile" is really the term here. I find EBS amps to be extremely hi-fi and transparent, without the in-your-face grind of GKs and recent Aguilars, but they definitely have a subtle warmth compared to a totally clean signal. Engaging the character circuit and upping the gain a bit gives a very agreeable rock tone, to my ears. I've gigged with the Drome 12 in styles from metal to Brazilian jazz on an electric upright and it's always sounded good in the mix. It's so well engineered that I didn't even need a soldering iron to convert mine from 230VAC to 110VAC when I moved to the US. The only thing I would change would be to put a trim on the tweeter level, as they have on their cabinets.

i don't have specific settings i use. most of the time i use eq to adapt to the room i play. i might add some bass if needed or maybe the opposite. i might play the amp flat!!! most of the time it sounds great flat.

what i like to do with my pbass though soundwise is to cut just a hair of bass and boost some low mids to compensate the bottom loss... then i cut more treble and leave the bright to zero. i engage the character switch and try to use as much as gain is possible but without clipping the preamp stage. i'm trying to set a vintage rock sound this way with some edge without bad overdrive. i do the same for my gibson eb3 (if i use the neck pickup i might cut more bass and play with the mids). when i play live though i might not follow these settings if they don't sound ok in the room

on both basses i mentioned i have labella flats

nice, thanks for the tips!

I am having a hard time dialing a good tone in, it's loud, but sort of hollow and too midie with any of my basses.
I then plugged into the shuttle + 112 bergantino and it was pillowy and fat even at low volume. I might have to flip the EBS if I can't get that round bottom and tame how direct the sound is. I'll do a gig with it first though, cause this is all just living room stuff, and it might actually sit really nicely in a mix.

Dear All,
So glad we have this forum to share ideas/ask questions/ interact with other proud EBS users!
I have a had a Drome 12 combo since 1998. Love it! I play electric bass, upright bass, and electric upright bass and the amp has sounded great 100% percent of the time. I also own an EBS Gorm 2-10 combo. Since I play mostly jazz I only use that amp a couple of times a year (some of my regular gigs/rehearsals have a bass amp already to go on stage and the DROME is perfect for most jazz gigs anyways) ). That GORM also sounds AMAZING all the time! I have had it since 2005. But... I recently hurt my back lifting it incorrectly (it is 74 lbs!!!) Mine is the model before the NEO GORM. I decided I better sell it before I have a serious injury. I am 49 now.... Hate selling it because it sounds so good but I just ordered an ESB Neo 2-10 cab and a Reidmar 502 head. I know it will not sound as good as the GORM but I have to sacrifice something in order to reduce the weight. At least it is still an EBS amp and it is the closest I could get to the GORM.
The GORM is 14 years old, in excellent condition, hardly used, always babied, and includes a custom padded TUKI cover. I also had side handles professionally installed (to look just like the side handles on the NEO GORM).
What is this amp worth used? I usually see them very expensive on REVERB and they sit there. They are also typically being sold from Europe and the shipping to US would be ridiculous. I am located in Los Angeles.
Many thanks in advance.

-Chris

Are you sure you will give up anything, tone wise, with the Reidmar + NeoLine 210 setup? I have used the Gorm 410 on stage a few times, and in my experience and opinion, it is "less than the sum of its parts"... Cabinet volume per driver is too small, and it sounds fairly "boxy" ("raspy" mids) and is light in the lows.

Reidmar is not too different from the combo amp, but the NeoLine sound MUCH better than the Gorm enclosure, IME. I would do that swap in a heartbeat!

As for Gorm local market value, I have no clue. They go for 250 - 400 USD in Sweden, I think. Drome is more popular here, it seems.

The good news is that EBS gear is generally damned expensive in the US, so if you find a buyer, they'll likely be prepared to pay for the scarcity. The bad news is that EBS gear is generally damned expensive in the US, so not many people appreciate it for what it is. It may take a while to move. We're not supposed to answer "what's it worth" questions outside the TalkBass buy/sell forums, but you can look at the history on those forums, deals on Reverb, propositions on Ebay, and find an approximate answer. If I didn't already have an HD350+Neo212 setup as my midsize rig, I'd consider taking it off your hands.

Thank you for the comments. I am glad to hear you are happy with the NEO and Reidmar. I am concerned because the Gorm amp head is similar to the HD 350 amp. That is much more expensive than the Reidmar head, so I assumed the HD350 is a much better sounding amp. Also I just received the NEO 210- cabinet. I bought it from the official US distributor through REVERB. I says “Made in China”. All the other NEO cabinets I have seen state “Made in Sweden”. I guess they recently started building them in China. I hope the quality is the same.I think the GORM is amazing. I am a jazz musician and evrytime I have used it it was perfect. Just too heavy....
Thanks again!

Thank you for letting me know that I should not talk prices on TB. I did not know that.

I would not count on that, unless you are one of those people who claim they can hear the difference between a class A/B power amp and a class D. The HD350 (and the Gorm variant) have old-school "lead sled" class A/B power stages. The Reidmars are class D, much lighter and much cheaper (and made in China), but have pretty much the same pre-amp front end as the HD350. Indeed, the Reidmar 750 looks to have *exactly* the same front-end, including both the compressor and the Drive circuit, while the Reidmar 500 seems to have exactly the same front-end as my Drome - same as the HD350 minus the Drive circuit. They finally came out with a 2-ohm-compatible version of the 500, but as that's less power than my HD350, I'm holding out for the 2-ohm version of the 750.

I don't own the Reidmar or any EBS cabs. I have owned a number of their products, and still have an EBS 1V2 preamp, an OctaBass and a MultiDrive.
